A/N: This takes place in Noel and Tyler’s seventh year, which is a little further in the future than this site, and the two have been together two years as of now, so I figure they’d know each other well enough at this point and could tell when the other is in a bad mood. If you want a second part let me know, this is a one shot at the moment and I don’t have a title for it. Tyler's actions actually fit THIS version of him better than they did on the one I originally wrote about.
I only own Noel and Audrey. Other characters in here are either canons or owned by other players, and I’ve gotten permission to use them. Lily and Gavin are NPC’s since I couldn’t think of names to change them to. Their houses have been changed to Ravenclaw, but they’re both good friends of Noel and Tyler.
Noel could see that Tyler was having a Bad Day. They didn’t need to even talk, he could just tell in the other boy’s posture, the way he held himself, that he was not in a good mood. He found himself so finely tuned to his boyfriend’s emotions lately that every flinch or flicker or spasm of anger and frustration that crossed his face registered in his mind. Something was definitely wrong.
Tyler was holding himself taller, stiffer, his hand tightly clenched around the strap of his school bag, his chin held high and his face screwed into the bitchiest glare he could give. First years of all four houses scrambled out of his boyfriend’s way as he marched down to Defense against the Dark Arts, which, while not unusual at times, was cause for alarm.
“Tyler?†Noel asked nervously as he stood next to him. Tyler turned around, but for once he didn’t smile at the other boy. He held up a hand to cut him off. “Not now, Noel, please,†he snapped. Ok, that was new.
But that didn’t stop him from taking Noel’s hand under the table and locking their fingers together. It was a small comfort that showed that Tyler wasn’t angry at him. They had to let go when Snape entered the classroom. They were working on combustion curses, and Snape wasn’t paying attention to the protests he was getting. “Mr. Eaton, you’re up first since you got this quickly enough the first time around and you’re not a complete imbecile when it comes to wand work.â€
Noel glared at Snape; he felt Tyler grip his fingers tighter as he stared straight at the board, seemingly using the other boy’s hand as an anchor. “I think I should sit this one out today, Sir,†he said, trying not to let Snape get to him.
Snape sneered at the boy. “Mr. Eaton, I wasn't asking. I was telling,†he said, his voice brooking no argument. Snape was an asshole on his better days, but he didn’t seem like he was in the mood today, and Noel knew if someone sneezed the wrong way today he’d be handing out detentions.
Tyler's jaw was set, but he pushed his chair back with a sharp squeal, dropping Noel’s hand as though it was burning him, and marched to the front. Snape reminded him of the spell he was to perform, and he nodded sharply and took out his wand.
Noel prayed silently, gripping the sides of his chair. Sure Tyler was one of the best students in DADA, hell he’d taught Noel most of what he knew, but Noel had seen his boyfriend lose his temper. He knew exactly what Tyler was capable of when he was in the wrong mood.
This would NOT end well.
“Flagrate!â€
Snape’s desk exploded in a shower of red sparks sending shards of flaming debris over the front three rows of students, most of whom had fast enough reflexes to throw themselves out of their chair, or at least dodge the fiery wood that flew their way.
The few who were unlucky enough to actually catch flame were quickly extinguished by a flood of water from Snape’s wand, dousing the entirety of the class as he quickly worked to settle the sudden pandemonium. Noel wasn’t sure whether to laugh or not as he looked up towards the front, but Tyler wasn’t there. He’d stormed out of the room, the door slamming in his wake.

Tyler didn’t show up during lunch, and he had skipped Charms and Potions. Noel figured he’d wait and let Tyler cool off, but Lily and Gavin came up to the table where he was sitting with his sister and Audrey, and he knew something was wrong. Lily looked like she was about to cry, and Noel remembered she had been in DADA with him and Tyler.
“Tyler locked himself into a stall in the boy’s bathroom, Noel, he’s insisting on staying in there,†Gavin said, looking worried. Lily had told him what happened in DADA. “I don’t know what happened but he won’t even speak to me.†Lily looked at him. “Apparently he got a letter from his mother, but we don’t know what it said and he snapped at me when I asked him about it. We figure if he’ll speak to anyone he’ll speak to you,†she added, still looking scared. “Slughorn was angry when he didn’t turn up for Potions, and we think he’s been in the bathroom all day.â€
Noel nodded, standing and making his way upstairs. He went to the bathroom Gavin had said Tyler was in and opened the door. “Tyler?†He stepped into the bathroom. “Baby, I know you’re in here, talk to me,†he said, finding Tyler sitting by the window near the sinks. He knelt to the other boy, taking his hand. “Noel, I can’t talk about it right now,†he said, though he didn’t push Noel away, instead he held onto him tighter. “You don’t have to say anything if you aren’t ready to, Tyler, I just wanted to see if I could help you,†Noel said, kissing the other boy’s forehead and pulling him close. Tyler put his head on Noel’s shoulder.
“I got a letter from Mum this morning, but I’m not ready to talk about it,†Tyler said finally, his voice cracking. Noel knew it had to be bad because Tyler and his mother were close. If something happened to her… He nodded, kissing the other boy gently, wiping a tear from his eye. “You don’t have to say anything unless you choose to, Tyler.†Noel wasn’t going to force the matter, all he cared about now was making Tyler feel better. Tyler smiled up at him. “Lily and Gavin sent me up here, they were worried about you,†Noel said, “And so was I.†Tyler blushed a bit, looking into Noel’s eyes. “I’m sorry... about this morning I mean. I didn’t mean to snap at you, and then in DADA...†he said, trailing off, and Noel nodded, smiling. “That has to be the first time I’ve seen Snape turn that many different shades of white in five seconds,†he said, and Tyler laughed. They sat there for a couple of minutes, talking and kissing until Tyler was comfortable enough to go back downstairs.
