They say APPEARANCE is everything
PLAYED BY ;;
Diane Kruger.
HAIR ;;
Long. White-blonde. Wavy. As fair as her sisters are dark, Narcissa's hair is kept as immaculate as it can possibly be kept, befitting a woman of her class whether she is out and about or in the family home. Or as immaculate as one can keep wavy hair. At any rate, she wears it up on most occasions, and it is a rare sight indeed when she does let down her meticulously cared for white-blonde tresses.
EYES ;;
Large. Dark blue. Piercing. While differing in colouration when compared to the traditional dark Black looks, Narcissa has inherited their penchance for grey and blue eyes. Framed by dark blonde lashes and dark enough blue so as to appear cobalt, sometimes even black in certain lights (and possibly certain moods), Narcissa's eyes are as hard to read as they are piercing, difficult to meet the gaze of when stared down by her. And yet at the same time, if one knows her well, they will easily pick up the little nuances, the minute displays of expressiveness to them that give her away.
HEIGHT ;;
5'5"
WEIGHT ;;
One hundred and thirty-six pounds.
BODY TYPE ;;
Willowy. Slender. Deceptive. As befitting a taller woman of relatively slender weight, Narcissa's build is willowy bordering on fragile. She loses weight easily and struggles to put it on once she's lost it, something most women might envy but which she finds a pain at the worst of times, especially in the wintertime. She's not to be underestimated, however; she might look like one good hex, a strong wind, a bone-crushing embrace could finish her off, but underneath the willowy bones, she is possessed of a deceptive strength that is just as much heart as it is physicality.
CLOTHING STYLE ;;
Classy. Traditional. As a Pureblood of high standing and higher disdain for those inferior, Narcissa prefers clothes more traditional of wizarding stock. However, when she is seen out of robes, she prefers garments of a more elegant, classier design, and will rarely be seen in anything not tailored almost perfectly at the least to her body. One makes a better impression well-dressed, after all.

But your PERSONALITY is who you are
OVERVIEW ;;
Narcissa often comes across upon first impression as cold, secretively tight-lipped and just a little bit snobby. And it's not a mistaken impression, either; she's all of those, especially the cold bit. Nor does she have any compunctions in expressing her disdain when it arises; she's been born, raised and bred to breathe blood superiority and carry one's self with wealth, and she damn well does it to a tee. Muggleborns, lesser blood, halfbreeds and especially blood traitors are barely worthy of this proud woman's tolerance, and tolerance is only given for the sake of holding up appearances, though despite this held attitude, she never has and likely never will recieve the Dark Mark on her arm.
Narcissa is, above all else, a proud woman. She is a shrewd and lovely creature and she knows it, and the air in which she carries herself is elegant and graceful and untouchable and thoroughly unstudied. Or if it is studied, she does a damn good job of hiding it. She'd probably be what most little girls would want to be, if she wasn't such a glacial, disdainful, and yes, snobby paradigm of a lady. Manipulative, too; she knows how to and has perfected it down to an art, getting what she wants or needs, and as aforementioned, she's shrewd and highly intelligent to boot, both academically (as her NEWTs scores and her interest in her favored subjects showed) and in society. Quite frankly, Narcissa can act perfectly the part of heartless bitch when she wants to, and do so with little remorse. As far as she's concerned, if you think you've got a big enough set of boots to be making threats or taking her on, you're pretty much asking for it, and you'll be treated as such.
Despite her deliberate coldness, Narcissa is not without her temper. She is a Black, after all, so it's a given that she's possessed of a formidable nature when the need arises. In fact, while she generally keeps it under wraps, her temper is downright ferocious when it does finally break from it's confines, and it's a general given that it will appear without so much as a warning should one so much as betray her trust or threaten the security of her life, or more, that of the few people she loves. She has and has come very close to killing for Lucius and their son, and will readily forsake all others - including a good deal of logic, if dealing with a higher power - if she feels there's no other way. She is also capable of displaying a slightly more amusing - and more obvious - tendency towards a headstrong nature when provoked, too; she doesn't like being told no, will argue until she wins or one of you likely faints from exhaustion, and so on and so forth. Quite frankly, what Cissy wants, Cissy is damn well going to get or Merlin help your soul.
Despite all this, Narcissa is not without her softer side. She's only human, after all, and far from incapable of love - the fact she would willingly commit murder to protect her family is an obvious hint in itself that she loves them deeply. Barely thinking twice of endangering herself, she will do whatever it takes to keep them safe and moderately happy at the least, and while she is and always will be reserved by nature, she shows a completely unfeigned, unshakeable love and dedication for them that Death itself would have to break.
LIKES ;;
Family. While Narcissa has little respect for certain members of her family, she is nonetheless driven by a deep sense of loyalty to them. Beyond this though is her loyalty to her husband and her son. She will go above and beyond the veil to protect them, and appears to have a genuinely loving, affectionate relationship with both Lucius and Draco; this probably makes them two on a very short list of people who witness her softer side frequently.
Strawberries and Honey. An odd combination, it's something she craved during her pregnancy with Draco and never quite gave up. Of course, she never likes to admit to this, and it's a bit of a game, trying to catch her out when she thinks no one is watching and goes straight for the kitchens to concoct this odd but extremely sweet snack.
Cats. Narcissa has had cats for as long as she can remember, and currently owns Aquila, a fluffy brown and white moggy ragdoll. No, really, he's a moggy; it's like the one thing she isn't prejudiced against, them cats. She prefers them more than any other pet, including owls, and will likely hex anybody who speaks ill of her precious fluffy ball of evil.
Charms. Her best subject and one she actually enjoyed, so it certainly tops in her favorite things.
Reading. Far from the usual trophy wife of her social circle, Narcissa is the sort of woman who is determined to know everything she possibly can. Reading also happens to be a calming pasttime for her, and she has a habit of holing herself up where she can't be found easily when she has a good book. In fact, she grows quite annoyed if you try to bother her, too.
Being Outside. Despite being a woman of proper standing, Narcissa's never quite been able to rid herself of her enjoyment of the outdoors. She's not the kind to go climbing trees or chasing minnows, oh no, but she'll take the chance to go out for a long, vigorous walk if the opportunity arises.
Being Pampered. Not really by others, ironically, though she might allow it on occasion from those closest to her. She more enjoys pampering herself when she gets to, even if it's just sitting in front of the mirror for an hour, brushing her hair, or painting her nails.
Rain. Narcissa would not call herself a romantic at heart, ever. Or even overtly sentimental. She just likes the rain, that's all. It's kind of cool and soothing, which she much prefers being.
Dancing. Of course, a woman of her status is required to know how to dance at least moderately above that of a savage. But that aside, she actually genuinely enjoys the pasttime.
Music. Taught from a young age to be proficient in piano, Narcissa has an ear for good music and an appreciation of the finer points of it, though she can be a little smug at times about the whole thing.
Passionfruit. One of her food weaknesses. From the pips to the juice to the flesh, she's half in love with it. If you bring her passionfruit, she'll probably do anything for you. Well, within reason.
Quidditch. Narcissa herself has confessed that while she's not the most talented of flyers, she does rather enjoy watching or listening to a match. Especially with Draco, and if cajoled enough, she will occasionally join him when he practices or plays while he's home.
DISLIKES ;;
Shellfish. She's allergic. Like, really allergic. And if she survives the probably asphyxiation, she'll probably strangle you afterwards with her bare hands for giving her shellfish in the firstp lace.
Intimidation. This would be up there with threatening her family. She's an aristocrat through and through, a proper little princess of pure blood, with a strong will to boot. Short of putting her son in danger, intimidating her will usually result in a particularly nasty curse or hex upon you. Or rather, important parts of your anatomy.
Blood Inferiority. Narcissa is typical traditionalist Pureblood stock; she's not fond of anything of mixed blood or half breeding, and she doesn't hide that fact.
Maniacal/Overtly Zealous Behaviour. This is actually the reason she dislikes most Gryffindors, as opposed to the usual old rivalry between her old House and the red House. She finds overt displays of emotion discomforting and even disgusting, and the term 'maniacal' is a dirty word that brings up images of those completely lacking on common sense; it's actually one of the reasons she doesn't and never has agreed with Bellatrix's behaviour.
Disloyalty/Betrayal. Despite the mold of Slytherin House often producing those out to achieve their own ends, Narcissa had in her from a young age a very strong sense of loyalty and dedication to what she holds dear. Of course, hypocritical as it is, everyone else less important is of free game. You're freer game again if you've done something to really antagonise her. In a way, this is why she disowned Andromeda - regardless of what it was, she took the fact Andi betrayed them harder than she actually took the fact that Andromeda was doing it for a Mudblood.
Growing Too Closely Affiliated to the Death Eaters. She agrees with quite a few of their ideals, but refuses to be branded with Dark Mark and fears the danger it puts her family in.
Being Told She Can't Do Something. Exactly as it says - have fun telling Narcissa the reasons fifty why she's not allowed something.
Threatening Her Family. Don't do it. Go ahead, threaten her. But not the family. It may very well be the last thing you ever do.
Wanton Stupidity. One of the very few things Narcissa has absolutely no patience for - being an imbecile purely for the sake of being an imbecile. Especially if the correct answer or path is literally there in front of you, probably dancing naked in a tea cosy.
STRENGTHS ;;
Charms. Her best subject and the magic she in fact shows the most potential in. Narcissa studied the subject for some years after her time at Hogwarts, and is talented enough to think little of using wandless magic to make objects float about, as well as conjuring little amusements on occasion to entertain her son.
Transfiguration. Her second best subject at Hogwarts, Narcissa achiebed an O in her NEWTs for the subject, and continued to study it for some time outside of her school years.
Dark Magic. Due to an affilitation with the Death Eaters (not to mention her entire family) and even her own aptitude for Defence Against the Dark Arts, Narcissa is capable of dark magic. A formidable trait to have, though not one she exercises as regularly as some do. Of course, it might also depend entirely on what mood she's in at the time, too.
Protective Spells. While some are more inclined towards offensive magic, Narcissa's strength seems to lie primarily in defensive and protective magic, and she has proven herself to be quite proficient at it.
Determination. If Narcissa wants, Narcissa gets. Or she'll do her damned hardest to get what she wants, anyway.
Duellist. While not as inclined towards it as some, Narcissa has proven to be adept duellist and more than capable when the need calls; she's certainly confident enough to challenge a person and back it up if need be, and has no doubt become better over the years thanks to the guidance of her husband.
Strong-Willed. Narcissa is, despite her upbringing (or perhaps because of it) possessed of a rather extraordinary amount of resilience, as well as a rather amusing yet infuriating tendency to not take no for an answer.
Calm. Narcissa has long since learnt the merits of keeping a cool head, and while she does lose her temper a little on occasion, she is for the most part a cool, collected human being, entirely capable of thinking with logic and difficult to fluster.
Love. Despite being referred to as a Dark Witch, Narcissa is deeply capable of love when the need calls. She will go above and beyond the call of duty to protect those dear to her, especially her son and husband, even lie and put herself in the way of Death itself if it saves them.
FLAWS ;;
Cold. She tends to keep her cards close to her chest, and while coldness is all well and good in most situations, it can make her come across in a less than pleasant light. Not that she particularly cares, though.
Somewhat Blinded to her Son's Flaws. Draco's less than perfect, and Narcissa is yet to admit that her spoiling and cosseting him may have had something to do with this.
Prejudice. Narcissa was brought up in the most traditional of Pureblood families. Therefore, she harbours a rather deeply ingrained sense of superiority towards most of those beneath her class, from Muggleborns to halfbreeds, and will rarely be seen in their company if she can avoid it.
Overprotective. Literally to a fault. As in, even if something is against her morals, she'll go against those morals if it means protecting her family and the few things she holds dear. She is particularly protective of Draco, though she has even been known, on occasion, toenact revenge onstand up to people in defense of her husband.
Temperamental. Narcissa is, for the most part, cool and collected and glacially elegant on the surface. However, she sports something of a temper underneath - the Black temper, if you will. Se hates not getting her way, will not tolerate insults of any kind to her loved ones, will protect them with a lioness's fierceness if they're threatened, and has absolutely no qualms in using a myriad of ways to enforce her will and ensure she gets what she wants. The fact that she also tends to bottle up her emotions does not help in the slightest when she finally does decide to let off steam.
Slightly Spoilt. Not only is she a tad headstrong, Narcissa is also the youngest daughter of a very wealthy, old family. As a result, she's used to getting her own way, will fight viciously to get it, and does not like it at all if she doesn't get it.
Secretive. Her natural disposition combined with the usual aloofness of upper class mean that Narcissa is prone to keeping things close to her chest. While this is dead useful in some aspects, it's highly unhealthy in others, especially when she does crack on occasion.
Distrustful. Narcissa is naturally disinclined towards trusting people even without her pureblood prejudice; it was more than likely an issue she would have had in the early days of her marriage, though ironically, such suspiciousness is also the result of being amongst the darkest of dark wizards...she knows better than any what they're capable of.
HABITS ;;
- When she is nervous/restless/frightened/frustrated, she is prone to harbouring and bottling up restless energy. Whether or not this is a result of her usually keeping things underneath her cold veneer is unknown, though it probably is. As a result, she'll do all manner of things when suffering from any of the above emotions without a real outlet - pacing repeatedly, throwing herself over her bed and then rising again if she's alone (or potentially with Lucius present), kicking at the ground, snapping irritably and generally displaying a rather more fiery temper than she usually shows.
- Narcissa did in fact enjoy Herbology as a student and is thus prone to wandering the grounds of Malfoy Manor and the surrounding terrain. Rain or shine, she'll do it if she feels like it, simply because she enjoys the scenery.
- She has a deep love for the rain, especially rain and thunderstorms, and if she can't be outside at the time, one will often find her in the room with the biggest windows, gazing out absentmindedly at the water droplets/lightning in all it's glory.
- She's prone to letting out the odd cuss word when startled or annoyed, though she'll berate Draco (and Lucius) soundly for it if she ever hears anything coming from their mouths.
- She has, of course, a bad habit of fussing over Draco. But she is a mother, after all.
AMBITIONS ;;
- She wouldn't mind taking up her old studies again one day, once Draco's old enough to fend for himself.
- She harbours the same resentment towards those of lesser blood that most of her family do, and would prefer not to see them around. However, she's nowhere near as maniacal about it as some.
- Quite simply, to see her only child and son grow up and do well for himself.
FEARS ;;
- Voldemort's return, in a way, purely because it will once again put her husband in severe danger. And quite possibly her son too.
- Losing her son above all else. Draco is the only child Narcissa ever had and managed to carry to term. Thus, she is very protective of him, and fears how she would cope if anything happened to him.
- Bowtruckles. She had three of the little bastards mistake her for a tree in Fifth Year during Care of Magical Creatures. And just about lost her head of hair as a result. She's even still got a thin scar under the hair of her browline from the incident. These things traumatise a person for life, you realise. And it has, because while she likes being outside at times, Narcissa will run a mile in point zero seconds flat if she see's a Bowtruckle.
SECRETS ;;
- She resented Lucius for his devotion to the Dark Lord in the First War, as it took him away from the family and into often needless danger more than he needed to be. Not only that, but it also posed a greater danger of losing him, something that terrifies her only slightly less than losing Draco, if not equally on par.
- She never has and never will approve of Bellatrix's actions.
- While she thoroughly disdains her elder sister Andromeda for her betrayal, she actually misses her a little at times too, more than she'd care to admit. She actually made to visit Andi several times around the period Nymphadora was born, and rather approved of the name for the baby girl, though she never went through with it, of course.
- Her terror of Bowtruckles is a not so secret shame.
- She's also actually extremely ticklish, though she will never, ever, EVER admit to it.
- If she thinks she's alone and no one will disturb her, she'll literally let her hair down and relax in a manner almost child-like; if outside, she'll stoically trudge her way through mud and drizzle like it's a formal outing, and if she's inside, she'll sometimes stay in her pyjamas for an obscene amount of time and hide out in some nook or cranny of the manor with a book.
- She still practices her Defence Against the Dark Arts, just in case. And she used to use her talent for Charms to entertain her son when it was just them and he was a little boy, often causing small objects to float about to amuse him and even, on occasion, conjuring little things such as butterflies to occupy his interest.

HISTORY ;;
Born in the month of November, 1955, and thus born during her favorite season (Autumn), Narcissa was the youngest child and third daughter (and thus their final attempt at a male heir) born to Cygnus Black III and Druella Black, as well as the younger sister to Andromeda and Bellatrix Black, though it was noted from the very beginning that she was as fair as her sisters were dark - possibly a throwback to her great grandmother on her mother's side of the family. Possibly.
As expected of a Black child, Narcissa was raised from a young age the philosophy of blood purity and pureblood supremacy, and while she became nowhere near as maniacal as her elder sister Bellatrix, she nonetheless grew up quick to accept the concept of superiority amongst those of 'lesser blood' and prejudice in favour of pure blood. She also developed something of a disdain towards those of an overtly zealous nature - in her opinion - anyway, though she herself could hardly talk, as she developed a habit quite frequently as a child for wandering off whenever the fancy struck her to explore her surroundings. Particularly if they were outside in the fresh air, and despite learning after repeated beratement that such antics were not proper for a young lady of her standing, it was still something she never quite managed to give up.
Narcissa entered Hogwarts in the year of 1966, and was, after a surprisingly lengthy debate with the Hat (for a Black, anyway), Sorted into Slytherin House. She showed early on a surprising knack for academics, excelling in at least two of her classes and doing well in a vast majority of the others (though she was careful never to mention her knack for Defence Against the Dark Arts to her elder sisters), though her naturally closed off, very much influenced by her parent's philosophies nature meant she made few in the way of true friends. This hardly mattered to her, though; she had better things to do than deal with imbeciles and riff-raff, thank you very much. Exploring the grounds of her own accord was more reliable company, anyway.
During her later years at Hogwarts, Andromeda, the second eldest sister - and the one Narcissa had always looked up to until that point - eloped with the Muggleborn Ted Tonks. Ironically, though she too scorned the match, Narcissa's reasons for cutting all contact from her eldest sister were actually far less malicious than the rest of the family, in their own way; she was provoked a great deal more by hurt and anger than scorn or disdain, feeling that in doing what she had, Andromeda had utterly betrayed her loyalty to her family, and by extension, that to her sister. Especially her youngest, though Narcissa would, in later years, consider visiting Andi several times on the sly without ever going through with it.
Still, it was at this point that Narcissa also began to develop the rather cold veneer over her feelings that she's better known for today, a veneer she would keep a rather strict hold over for the rest of her years at Hogwarts, and subsequently for quite a length of time during her adulthood. And to this very day, she wouldn't and will never admit under the worst -
Narcissa settled readily into her position as the new Mistress of Malfoy Manor, enjoying a life not dissimilar to the one she'd known as a Black. Though ironically, she had considerable more freedom, as she was hardly going to be told off for roaming her own grounds. So too was she introduced to the Death Eater lifestyle through her marriage to Lucius, though she herself never has and never will let herself be branded with a Dark Mark. Unfortunately, child-bearing came less readily to her, with Narcissa discovering early on into her marriage that while she could become pregnant, she struggled to carry a child to term, and would lose two unborn children (and one more after) before she finally gave birth to her only son, Draco.
As the only child she would bear (not to mention one of the only in the world who could stir her emotions so strongly), Narcissa was extremely protective of Draco, doting on him and spoiling him in equal measure, refusing nannies and even babysitters when she could despite it not being entirely proper. He became and still is very much a focal centerpoint in her world, and there is nothing for him she would not do. He also became something of a bright little light during dark times, as the years immediately surrounding his birth were terrible ones indeed - those prior to the Dark Lord's fall spent scared witless for Lucius's safety and the very real possibility of him never coming home, those after the Dark Lord's fall spent worrying herself sick over the future of the family, shoud Lucius's name not be cleared and he be sent to Azkaban.
Thankfully, Narcissa's prayers were answered and her husband was cleared of his crimes (in the eyes of the public, anyway), though she was much grieved by the death of her cousin, Regulus, and the sentencing of her only remaining sister - in a way - to Azkaban. Still, the years following were spent in relative peace despite the disdainfully growing presence of impure blood in the world. Free of the war, Narcissa had more time to and thus adapted quickly to the shrewd life of a wealthy social climber, learning her own brand of deceit and manipulation amongst those of power when she wasn't spending time with and tutoring her young son. She had a very firm hand in his education, refusing pointblank (and winning) the argument with her husband as to where to send Draco for secondary schooling - Hogwarts over Durmstrang, as while she never had much love for Dumbledore himself, suffice to say she preferred that to Karkaroff, as well as, of course, the lesser distance from her son, whom she was extremely reluctant to part from even when she knew it would happen.
In the present time, Narcissa continues the life she has led for the majority of the past decade and a half, though she listens out for and somewhat fears in equal measure the rumours stirring of encroaching darkness.
