OVERVIEW ;; Severus Snape is a man of poise and purpose. Nothing is done without cause or reason. Thus when Severus acts, even if it makes little to no sense in the world there is a rhyme and reason behind it, one that he is not always willing to share. It was a hard lesson learned long ago that it is best not to share much of anything with anyone and thus Snape keeps things close to the chest. He is not a very open mad, he is rather quiet and reserved, hardly allowing his true emotions or thoughts to be seen by others. It is why the man is very practiced in Oculamancy. He likes to keep his life and secrets carefully guarded from any prying eyes or minds. His thoughts and demons are his own and none others, besides emotions are a sign of weakness and that is the last thing Severus wants to be before anyone.
Having grown up with the life he had, Severus had found that having control and power is something that he craves deeply and he will jump at any chance to have and maintain that in his life. It is why he keeps strict order in his life and class room. He loathes surprises and interruptions and likes to have control of his life. It is also what appealed to him about the dark arts, the power the strength the control. It was better than magic to him, it was everything he ever lacked as a child and more. It was intoxicating in some ways, unlike potions which is also a love with it's precise measurements and the control held in the potion brewing process.
Though Snape prides himself in being in control and keeping his true emotions hidden does have something of a temper than can be broken causing him to act with careless abandon being a man almost completely different from the man that most people know and see. He will act irrationally and will in many ways wind up screaming but this is rare for Severus. Other wise it is a cruel, cool, calculating demeanor at all times.
There is one other exception and that is when it comes to the Miss Lily Evans. (He refuse to acknowledge her married name.) For Lily, Snape would stop the world from turning and would do anything for her. He is heart broken over her choice in love and in some ways hates her for that choice but at the same time that hate never lasts as he can't stand to think of Lily in a negative light and will hate himself for his snide thoughts about her when the occasionally surface. With Lily Severus is a rather quite and mild mannered man wanting nothing more than her love in return, but that is only if he is alone with her. She is the one person that he would ever potentially open up to, the rest of the world can go screw themselves as far as he is concerned.

HISTORY ;; While the birth of most children is met with joy and celebration, that wasn't quite the case for Severus Snape. He was met with pain and agony, not to say that Eileen didn't love her son, but when she gave birth to him, she was on her own, there was no husband there to celebrate and encourage her, he was too busy with work to be there. Though in some ways it was cold cruel world that baby Severus was born into, he found warmth and comfort in the arms of his mother.
Outside of the love and care of his mother Snape was faced with nothing but the cruelty of life. His father hating what he and his mother was was a very aggressive man taking much of his anger out on his wife, leaving poor Severus to cry alone in the corner. It was a cruel and harsh living being told that he was worthless and substandard being called by his middle name as that was more muggle than his first name which had been a Prince family name.
It did not take long for Snape to find that he hated his father and though he loved his mother dearly he found himself spending as much time as he could out of the house alone, as most of the children in the neighborhood teased him for how he looked and dressed, always having hand me down clothes like a jacket that was much too big for him and always looking that little bit dirty. But Severus didn't care, he didn't need those stupid muggle children they were just as bad as his father and he knew he was better than them, he could do magic, if only he could show them! And maybe one day he would when he went to Hogwarts and learned magic and was no longer bound by certain laws!
But that was for another time, as it was around that young age that he saw her, the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, she had a fire and magic about her that ran beyond the normal confines of magic. He watched as she stood up to bullies and had a life about her that was mysterious to Snape. It was when he saw her actually perform a bit of magic that he fell even more in love. She was a witch! It was meant to be! One person that he felt could be his friend because she wouldn't make fun of him and she would understand, at least once he explained it.
From there things just snowballed so to speak. Sev found himself constantly spending time with Lily hating her sister and finding her to be the most amazing thing to happen in his life. Somehow when he would spend hours with Lily telling her about magic and what it was like in the wizarding world he would forget all his problems at home and life would not seem as bad as it was. He couldn't wait until they both turned eleven and went to Hogwarts together where they could spend all their time together and there wouldn't be a sad end to each day as he was faced with his dark home, where his mother was typically crying and hurt and his father either gone or drinking.
Growing up Tobias had never hit Snape and always took his anger and aggression out on his wife but finally young Severus spoke up against his father and was smacked a good one just a few short weeks before school. Embarrassed by what happened Severus avoided Lily until his bruised face could be hidden easily, and he found himself all the more grateful to be gone to school away from his father though he worried about his mother who assured him that she would be alright, and thus Severus' attention fell upon Lily wanting her to be in Slytherin with him as he was most certain that was the house for him as that was where most Prince's wound up and he wanted to prove all the more that he was good enough for the magic community.
It was on the train ride that Severus had the misfortune of meeting Potter and Black and the animosity between them was clear from the start at least between he and Potter. And things seemed to almost go down hill from there as Lily was sorted into Gryffindor. He wanted nothing more than to follow her but he knew where he belonged and the hat agreed and thus it was Slytherin for him.
Despite being in a different house Severus found himself spending a lot of spare time with Lily as she was his best friend and meant the world to him, all while garnering some admiration and popularity among his housemates as he proved himself quite skilled in spell work and almost knowing more than some of the older students. In short despite being in a different house from Lily, Hogwarts was everything the young Severus Snape, hoped and dreamed for and more!
There was only one truly dark and blemishing spot on his entire school career and that was Potter and his band of friends. They were the one thing that made life miserable, and he wished he could be rid of them because then life at Hogwarts would have been perfect. But of course the arrogant prat couldn't settle for just a few pranks it had to be utter humiliation causing him to say things he never would have otherwise said ruining the one thing that was most dear and precious to him which was his friendship with Lily. Though it was his own words and Lily blames him, he blames Potter and his friends, off course add to it the whole unnerving and annoying fact of Black trying to get him eaten by Lupin to have Potter save his life and the loathing is un-ending and undeniable.
Thus the summer after Severus' fifth year was a rather dark one as it was the first summer after school that he couldn't go visit Lily he tired but was met with rejection. It broke his heart thus when Tobias tried to turn on him and Eileen once more Snape had had enough and held his father at wand point and made him leave Spinners end. A spell wasn't cast but the darkness in his eyes was enough to say Azkaban be damned he would cast the most horrific spells he knew on Tobias and it seemed that the older man recognized it because he was gone the next day and never seen again. This was how Sev was afforded some peace over the summer holidays.
The last two years of school went by almost in a blur for Snape, as he tried a few more times to win Lily back only to fail and find her going out with that prat Potter, the boy even she seemed to have professed to hate. And that was the last of hope for Severus, he turned into his studies growing darker and finally getting word of the Death Eaters a group that stood for what he believed in and he took the mark of a Death Eater serving Lord Voldemort or rather his dark purpose because nothing but cruelty and hate ever came from the muggle world as far as Severus was concerned.
Since the point in time things have taken interesting turns from him getting a job at Hogwarts and hearing the prophecy that caused the Dark Lord to attack the Longbottom child and be destroyed to the death of his mother to there now being rumors of the Dark Lord returning. As of this point Snape is playing his cards very carefully waiting to be sure the Dark Lord has returned ready and willing to serve once more as he has never renounced his ways as a Death Eater but rather put them on hold and worked to keep himself from Azkaban as there were those who would try to implicate him after the Dark Lord's defeat.
