{JACOB LUKAS SAMUEL KEISINGER}
Can I get an introduction please?
FULL NAME ;; Jacob Lukas Samuel Keisinger.
NICKNAMES ;; Jake. Monkey.
AGE ;; 17.
GENDER ;; Male.
ETHNICITY ;; Spanish x Irish x German.
BLOOD TYPE ;; Halfblood.
CANON OR ORIGINAL ;; Original.
[/blockquote]
They say APPEARANCE is everything
PLAYED BY ;; Avan Jogia.
HAIR ;;
Wavy. Dark. Sable. Jake has what any who knows his mother's family would call 'typical Valens hair'. A sable that is mostly black but appears to lighten to a dark, dark brown in the summertime; if left to grow long enough, which it currently is, Jake's hair will wave and curl over his forehead and around his face, and may even form ringlets if left to grow longer still. However, he has rarely allowed this since his childhood, and thus, it simply retains that rather deceptively sweet-looking curl about his features.
EYES ;;
Large. Dark. Spanish. Warm. Jake's eyes are a direct trait from his mother's Spanyard ancestry. Undoubtably his best feature, they are certainly the feature he'll use the most to get what he wants. A typical trait from his mother's side; they are oval verging on almond-shaped, appearing to taper a mite at the sides due to rather long, and yes, slightly feminine eyelashes. Colour-wise, they are a rich, warm and rather playful brown, frequently conveying a sense of amusement to (or at?) the world through the hint of a dark amber gleam in them, though in dark lighting or in certain moods, they can appear black at first glance.
HEIGHT ;; 6'0"
WEIGHT ;; 172lbs
BODY TYPE ;;
Jake's is a body that will, once he's completely grown into it, be of the rather attractive variety. Broad shoulders, narrow waist, long limbs, angular features, triangular look - all attractive enough traits in a man's build; it's just he...needs to finish growing into it first. And at seventeen, he's still got a fair chunk of growing to do, so for the present, he's almost all angles and lankiness. Very little body fat doesn't help, and with his broadish shoulders and chest his lower half still yet to fill out in line with the upper half, he rather gives off the appearance of being 'unfinished', for lack of a better description.
CLOTHING STYLE ;;
Casual and sporty is Jake to a tee. As he's kind of all angles, he tends to prefer - though sometimes unwillingly - baggier clothes, purely because while tighter clothes would fit snugly around his slender waist and legs, they're murder on the longer arms (and even the legs, ironically) and the broader shoulders. Not that it's too much of an issue for him. He's not one to demand attention from the crowd, and if he's not in his school uniform, he's absolutely content ambling about in Muggle jeans and a jumper. If anything, he's almost too casual at times; the clothes are easy to move around in for a young man who enjoys the outdoors and getting into things, but they are prone to rip and tear as a result, and as his mother isn't around during the school year and his sister has since left, there's no one to berate him that he'd actually take seriously for having the odd rip and tear.

But your PERSONALITY is who you are
OVERVIEW ;;
Despite being the youngest, Jake is by far the quietest and the gentlest in his family. He is nearly always willing to go along with something provided it’s not harmful to others, and is an all-round amicable, good-natured lad. Admittedly, he is also quite shy at first, and tends to latch onto people louder than him almost out of habit – happy to sort of stay in their shadow while they fuss about in the spotlight. He’s the sort of guy that you see but don’t often hear; he doesn’t like conflict, and he’s amicable but fairly cautious, and there’s a difference between knowing Jake and actually *knowing* Jake. As it generally is with most people.
As aforementioned, he’s quite gentle-natured. It’s not that he’s a pushover or anything, it’s just that he’s not particularly aggressive either. He doesn’t like conflict if it can be avoided, which has made him a target for bullies in the past, and he does his best to see the good in almost every situation. He does his best to be understanding, and there is a natural sense of empathy about him that only adds to the spark of gentleness and humour in his dark eyes and makes him seem that much more approachable. He’s willing to give everyone a go at least once, unless they’re particularly corrupt or questionable. Even then, he can be a little bit of a soft heart, though he’s done his best over the years to be that little bit more judgmental in certain situations.
Jake is also incredibly loyal, practically to a fault. He’s the quintessential Hufflepuff, really, with a strong sense of what is just and what isn’t (though without the Gryffindor noble complex), and an even stronger sense of what it is to be devoted to what’s important to you. He can be remarkably hard-headed in this respect, often refusing to budge on an opinion of someone or something, especially if he likes them and doesn’t think they’re genuinely bad. Unfortunately, it also means that if one knows how to push the right buttons, they can manipulate Jake. And to quite an extent, at that. As a result, it also means that he takes betrayal, when it does come, is swift and cutting and very hurtful for Jake, and though he nearly always gets back onto his feet, the sting of a backstab or a doublecrossing will often take a long time for him to heal, if it ever completely heals at all. He also rarely ever gets his temper truly up, and as a result, has a tendency to bottle things up until they fizzle and explode.
Despite his apparent docility (and his little penchant for distraction), Jake isn’t quite what you’d call lazy. Oh, he can be a bit of a lazy-ass – what teenager isn’t? – but he’s more or less fairly athletic, with a genuine love of the outdoors. It’s a guarantee, really; if it’s not raining or blizzarding out (and even then, neither is a given), then one will nearly always find him outside doing something, should they need to seek him out.
Thankfully, Jake is usually blessed with quite a good sense of humour. It’s pretty easy to make him laugh – or at least smile – and he’ll generally see a funny or good-natured side to most things, even pranks or jibes aimed at himself. He’s even prone to a prank or two on his own behalf, though he’s more or less the one who’s likely to think up or finetune a prank, and then let someone else play it. He can also be a mite self-deprecating, too; he’s not afraid to make fun of himself, whether it’s deserved or not. Especially if it makes someone laugh.
LIKES ;;
Quidditch: In true family fashion, Jake is absolutely mad about it. His mother’s side of the family has been fans of Quidditch for as long as they’ve had wizards in the family (so about four generations back), and each of them, from his grandfather (a Beater) to his mother (a Chaser) to his sister (a Chaser), played Quidditch at some point or other during their years at Hogwarts. It’s a surefire guarantee that if you stay with his family in the summer, you’ll be roped into some variation of Quidditch, or at least end up at one game during the season. It’s also one of the few things Jake tends to think he’s genuinely good at, so of course it’s something he admits to liking. Of course, there can be some confusion during the Quidditch World Cup, especially if Ireland and Spain end up playing one another!
Family: Despite not having a father for most of his life, and growing up in a family that did struggle on occasion, Jake has been raised with the traditional Spanish values regarding family and loyalty to them. Even when they drive him insane or butt heads with him, he couldn’t imagine life without them, and threatening them is a surefire way to get his hard-earned ire up, or beat him down if it’s a genuine threat against him.
Sherbet: He loves it. Oh Merlin, does he love it. For him, it’s like chocolate is to PMSing women, and rarely is he seen without *something* sherbet-y in his mouth, be it a Sugar Quill or a Fizzing Whizzbee.
Outdoors: Jake breathes the outdoors like a dying man in the desert inhales water, and he will literally wilt like a drooping tree if he’s kept cooped up for too long. Unfortunately, it also makes him quite easily distracted, as he’ll often pick the window seat and gaze out of it in dreamland during class.
Trees: Jake’s nickname is “Monkey” for a reason. If there’s a tree, he’ll nearly always climb it. If he’s upset, it’s the first place you’ll look – up in a tree. It doesn’t matter how many bones he’s broken climbing them – and he’s broken at least every limb once – he’ll still get back up there, and good luck to you getting him down. Hell, if he hasn’t taken a girl up a tree for a picnic on a date yet, there’s no doubt he will soon enough.
Herbology: Jake’s subject is, without a doubt, Herbology. He’s genuinely fascinated by how different magical plants work and function, and it’s likely he’ll settle into a career in this particular field when he grows older and/or graduates. He even enjoys non-magical plants, and he is never more delighted than when he’s exploring the moors at home, which are riddled with plants.
Being Just That Little Bit Different: His whole family back five generations has been Gryffindors. He’s a Hufflepuff. It’s still boggling his mother’s mind to this very day. And boy does he loves that fact.
Girls: Yes, perverts, he’s a teenage boy, so he does like them. However, it’s actually not quite in the sense you might think. He’s not gay, far from it, but he has grown up raised by a mother and an elder sister, so he kind of has a soft spot for the fairer sex. He’s generally a gentleman, and he’ll always help them out. Nor can he stand their tears for long; they genuinely worry him, if not outright make him panic, if he can’t do anything to stop the flood. He’s probably also good for a bit of insight, though don’t expect him to be an expert – women are strange creatures, after all.
Mischief: Despite his more gentle nature, Jake has still inherited the family penchant for mischief and tricks. He enjoys a good laugh, be it at his own expense or at another, usually deserving person, though any pranks he plays are good-natured when he does play them; he’s usually more or less the thinking part of a prank pulled by himself and his mates.
DISLIKES ;;
His Mother’s Job: Jake is extremely proud of Lil, yes. Practically idolises her. But it doesn’t mean he doesn’t worry himself sick, because she’s in a dangerous job, and there’s rumours been going around about danger looming.
Pumpkin: It’s gross. And it’s mushy. And slushy. He hates it. He won’t even drink pumpkin juice.
Loud Noises: He doesn’t mind the constant hum of the Hufflepuff Common Room, or the roar of the crowd during a Quidditch match. They’re expected sounds. It’s sudden noises he doesn’t like, or an unnecessarily loud voice. If either occurs, you’re guaranteed to have him jump a mile in the air or put him in a rather surly mood.
Being Interrupted: Jake is the youngest in the family and his older sibling is a bossy female. Seriously, would you enjoy being interrupted when you’ve had to deal with that most of your life?
Deep Water: He had a horrible run-in as a child with a Kelpie and a deep river. As a result, he’s wary if he can’t see the bottom wherever there might be deep water, and rarely will he swim in the Lake or in any body of deep water.
The Belief That Hufflepuff is the Loser House: Because what person – especially a Hufflepuff – enjoys hearing their school house bagged out? And it’s annoying because if people actually thought about it they’d realise that quite a few brilliant and even famous wizards and witches have come from Hufflepuff. Seriously, Gryffindor and Slytherin? Do you really think you’re special enough to have had them *all*? So stuck up. So not cool.
Serious Conflict: It’s a guarantee that if you try to corner him into a serious argument or if he becomes part of one, he’ll shut down. Literally, his face will close off and he’ll go quiet, especially if there’s no means of escape.
STRENGTHS ;;
- Herbology. It’s his best subject, and one he shows a genuine love and interest in.
- Defence Against the Dark Arts. While not as combative as some, he has inherited his mother’s knack for it. He more or less tells himself that applying himself to the subject will be good in the long run, as it will help protect himself and other people should the need ever arise.
- Loyalty. Jake is the quintessential Hufflepuff in this respect. He’s been raised with strong family values, and he’s naturally attracted to loyalty as it is. In fact, he can’t even fathom betraying a person, really, or telling a bald-faced lie, or backstabbing a friend, or why someone would want to do that.
- Empathetic. He doesn’t always understand what a person might be going to, but he always does his best to understand where they are coming from, and he’ll often do his best to alleviate their pain or uncomfortableness in any way he can – sometimes to his own detriment.
- Flying. As aforementioned, he comes from a family of Quidditch players and he’s fairly talented himself. As such, he’ll generally try anything once on a broom, and if he doesn’t get it the first time, he’ll keep trying until he does.
- Strong-willed. He might take a bit of time to warm to a subject, but once he’s developed a liking for it, it’s almost impossible to push him away from the challenge until he’s seen it through to the end. He’s also strong-willed in that, whether or not he gets knocked down again and again, he’ll nearly always get back up quietly, dust himself off, and keep trying.
- Imaginative. You don’t think that tendency to wander off into his thoughts is just there for a lark, do you? No, Jake is surprisingly imaginative at times, and while it means he can come up with some pretty hilarious thoughts on a subject, it also means that he’s got a knack for strategy and thinking outside the box.
- Bilingual. His mother’s side of the family is mostly Spanish, and he was raised by her. As a result, he speaks fluent Spanish. He can also speak German to an extent, but it’s quite broken and nowhere near as good as Cassandra’s, who had more time to learn it off their father by a long shot.
FLAWS ;;
- He doesn't speak up often enough, or rather, when it might be best to do so. Because of this, he's forever posing the risk of losing out on things. He would have probably never become a Beater if he'd been left to his own thoughts and hadn't been encouraged to try out, despite the fact that he's an excellent flyer. He likely also won't speak up if a friend of his is giving someone a hard time, or if he does, it'll be very tentative. Cliche as it sounds, he's almost too nice, enough so that it isn't always a good thing.
- He can't be easily led in the literal sense, though he is content to be a shadow rather than the one leading, and he can be manipulated due to his innately trusting nature.
- He's not a pessimist, nor is he neurotic, but he can become discouraged quickly if he doesn't succeed or do well at something the first or second time. He's learnt to study hard when it comes to doing things well at school and in general, but he's got a great deal less enthusiasm for things he doesn't get right that first or second time around.
- In typical teenage boy fashion, he can be a mite lazy once he's settled, which probably does influence the above flaw of becoming discouraged.
- It's very hard to pick him up if he feels particularly slighted or betrayed. He literally cannot fathom disloyalty, backstabbing and anything related.
- While he's particularly good at the more hands on aspects of magic, he's weaker in others. Divination nearly did his head in when he took it before dropping it, as did Arithmancy and History of Magic. Charms, he would list as his weakest subject currently, as while it has practical lessons, it's still less hands on at times and he does struggle a bit with it. His grasp of non-verbal magic is still something that needs work as a result, too.
HABITS ;;
- He scuffs his foot and kicks the toe of his shoe into the ground when he's bashful or embarrassed.
- He seems to have a thing for hanging upsidedown off his broom. Don't ask, but it does add credence behind the nickname 'Monkey'. And it actually has given him a better sense of balance in the air, which is a good thing whether you're a Beater or a Seeker.
- While he's technically not a dreamer in the literal sense, he does have a habit of wandering off outside, but he's predictable enough in that he can usually be found up a tree or milling about the quieter part of the Lake's edge, possibly cloud-spotting while he does so.
- He's got a bad habit of trailing off mid-sentence if something, especially a new line of thought, crosses his mind. And promptly forgetting that he was in fact speaking to someone and he's just left them in the loop.
AMBITIONS ;;
As he's entering his Seventh Year, Jake's most prominent ambition at the present time is to pass his NEWTs, and pass them well. He doesn't consider himself the smartest kid on the block, but he studies hard and knows what he's good at. Truthfully, he's dallied with the idea of becoming an Auror, but it's more or less because his mother, not to mention quite a few people he's looked up to over the years, are from that particular career branch. However, both logic and sound advice from those who know him tells him he probably not best suited for the job (and no, not because he's a Hufflepuff either, gits; he's always had a gentle temperament). Besides, he enjoys Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures so much that he's probably best suited to something in his future of that persuasion.
Oh yes, and like any Quidditch playing nutter, there's always the prospect of a groupie-filled career of awesome there, if he doesn't settle into the Herbology field!
FEARS ;;
- Jellyfish.
- Deep water.
- Kelpies.
- Losing everything he holds dear.
- Loud, sudden noises.
SECRETS ;;
- He's deathly afraid of jellyfish.
- While he's a great friend around girls, he's actually scared to do much more. It doesn't help that the first and last time he gave his heart, the little harpy he gave it to trod on it.
- He had, once or twice, browsed over books on necromancy. It's not that he's a dark wizard in the making or anything, but he does sometimes wish he could really speak to his Dad. Of course, he'll never go through with it.
And you can't leave your HISTORY in the past
FATHER ;;
Lukas "Luke" Keisinger; Cursebreaker; Deceased; Gryffindor Alumni. As a cursebreaker, Luke dealt with a rather dangerous job in it's own right, and was killed when Jake was just three years old. As a result, Jake never really knew his Dad, though he has a rather vague sense of memory and sensation and sound that he assumes is Luke. He does miss Luke, or more the missing presence of a father, but he's not one to angst over the loss in his life, preferring to accept it with his usual equanimity. That being said, he enjoys hearing stories about him, and thoroughly appreciates and is proud of being told by people who knew Luke that here and there and in little ways, he's rather more like his father than he might think. Lukas is also the side behind Jake's German ancestry, though it barely shows.
MOTHER ;;
Lillian Angelica Keisinger (nee. Valens); 37; Auror; Gryffindor Alumni. Jake is very much his mother's boy, though like any typical adolescent male, he'll ingest aconite and cyanide raw before admitting it around most people. There's no hiding it, though; he's terribly proud of Lil for what she's had to take on and achieve (not to mention risk and lose) in both her job, her service to the Order of the Phoenix and in raising two children as a widow, and of both parents, he is the most like her in both appearance and various mannerisms. Lil is, obviously, the side behind her son's IrishxSpanish ancestry, and it shows in his looks more than any other.
SIBLINGS ;;
Cassandra Moira Keisinger; 21; Magizoologist Trainee; Gryffindor Alumni. Like any typical sibling relationship, Jake has his love moments and his hate moments towards his sister. As she's quite a few years older and rather different in temperament, they do tend to clash and squabble quite frequently, not to mention she has a bad habit of babying him, though rarely is any of it serious. In all frankness, he does tend to look to her for guidance, as he often did in his childhood with the lack of a second parent, but he tends to worry quite a bit about her, as Cass is both impulsive and often led by her temper- in typical Gryffindor fashion - more than Jake has ever been.
HOMETOWN ;; Country Sligo, Ireland.
BIRTHDATE ;; 28th December 1979.
HISTORY ;;
Born two years before the end of the First Wizarding War, it's not a lie to say that Jake's life was somewhat in danger from his infancy. Not because he was particularly special or his birth auspicious or any such thing to the world outside of his family, but purely and utterly because of his mother's position in the war - an Auror and by that point, a known member of the then Order of the Phoenix. Unplanned as the pregnancy was (despite her marriage to Lukas), Lil nonetheless saw it to the end, loving the baby as deeply as she'd loved her firstborn - Jake's sister, Cassie - and even going so far as to go underground to protect herself and both her children by resigning her place in the war for the time being and seeking a place of safety with her relatives in a remote part of Spain while she went through the pregnancy.
The War finally ended the year Jake turned one, though not without its losses both to the wizarding world and to his family. He would never know his grandfather, for a start; Rico had been murdered while on the run during the year Lil was away with the children and undercover in Spain, and there were many, many others dear that were lost, including Jake's Uncle Samuel, of whom he was named after. Still, the family began to rebuild their lives, and despite the horror and grief of the war, Jake nonetheless spent the majority of his infancy in fairly blissful contentment. However, tragedy would soon strike the family again when the boy was barely three; his father, Lukas Keisinger, was accidently killed on a botched job gone wrong as a Curse Breaker. Jake barely remembers what happened, if at all, though he has a vague recollection of a lot of people crying.
Despite the loss of his father though, Jake never lacked in his childhood save for…well, the lack of a father. His mother did her absolute best in keeping both her job and in raising her children, though to this day, she doesn’t forgive herself for letting his five year old self wander so far out of sight at a river that he was almost taken by a Kelpie. This, Jake does have vivid memories of, and to this day, he still cringes at the memory of the creature’s scream and it’s sudden sharp teeth when his mother did show up before it could take him, though on the other side of the coin, it was also the first time he displayed magic – reacting instinctively to his mother’s terrified screams and flinging globules of mud at the Dark Creature. Fairly ineffective, but it held the Kelpie off long enough for Lillian to chase it off. After that, Jake refused to go near deep water again. However, his use of magic also became rather more common, as one might expect of a wizarding child; he nearly always grew his soft, wavy hair back whenever someone tried to cut it, and more than once, his mother or sister found him far too high up a tree for a small boy to simply climb it.
Jake’s sister, Cassandra, entered Hogwarts a year later, and though he often complained irritably of her bossiness, Jake nonetheless missed her. He eagerly looked forward to her letters and her stories when she returned, and was nothing short of overjoyed when he himself finally received his letter at age eleven. From then on, it was rather a blur – Diagon Alley and Platform Nine and Three Quarters and boating it to the castle – until the Sorting Hat was placed on his head. Not that it was a particularly life-changing occurrence, but after a long family line of Gryffindors, it was rather a shock to hear the Sorting Hat shriek “HUFFLEPUFF”.
Despite this initial surprise – and his poor, mind-boggled mother – Jake settled well into his new House and school life, though he often found himself in trouble due to his tendency towards letting his mind wander during class. Still, he wasn’t a terrible student, and in the years following, would prove himself capable of applying himself, often seeking help with study and other such things, though his grades still tend to reflect pretty highly what he preferred – Herbology, Potions and later, Care of Magical Creatures. He also made his first real friend at school early on – Jasper – and would, with the other lad’s encouragement, try out for the House Quidditch Team when positions came open once more.
Jake is now in his Seventh and final year at Hogwarts. With his NEWTs approaching along with the end of his last year, he’s admittedly quite nervous, as he’s not quite sure what he wants to do when he does leave. And Hogwarts is, and always has been a sanctuary for him, like it is for many children who pass through, so he’s rather loathe towards leaving it.
