But your PERSONALITY is who you are
OVERVIEW ;; Dumbledore is most often referred to as 'The most powerful wizard of his time. ' He was a benevolent and wise wizard, and almost constantly gave off an aura of Serenity and composure and very rarely shows emotions such as anger or fear. He tends to speak in a calm, collect voice, that kind and reasonable, yet still firm.
Despite this, when he does get angry, he can transform into a wizard that looks even more terrifying than Lord Voldemort himself. He has a face that shows classic fury, and he gives such a powerful aura, that it seems he is giving off burning heat. It is for this reason alone, that people say Dumbledore is the only wizard Lord Voldemort truly fears.
He is also slightly eccentric and can be slightly effeminate, and is quite fond of knitting patterns, and occasionally wears flamboyant clothing. He also has a habit of showing odd displays of whimsicality, and often uses humor to make people feel more comfortable in his presence.
Dumbledores extraordinary wizarding powers combined with his cunning and subtly of mind allows him to comprehend human nature and turn the better aspects of humanity to Voldemorts disadvantage in particular. However, despite his many talents and accomplishments, he is no way arrogant, self-important, or pompous. He is, however, aware of his talents and intelligence, and does not hold back when reminding people of this fact.
More than anything else, Dumbledore is motivated by his belief in the Human Spirit. He has a deep capacity for Love, and frequently reminds people that love is the greatest magic of all. This stems from his affections for Gellert Grindewald, who Dumbledore not only loved, but also admired for his ideas. He believes in the good in everyone, and insists on giving second chances, the greatest example of which is his relationship with Severus Snape, whom Dumbledore is willing to hold a considerable amount of faith, after he showed great remorse. He even saw the possibility of good in a young Tom Riddle, and was willing to give him a second chance, despite the fact that he had already shown himself to be a capable bully, even at a young age.
He was highly perceptive and emotionally intelligent. His knowledge of peoples true personality went beyond him being a good judge of good character. This is shown by his insight into Voldemort's complex psyche.
Aside from having little fear of death, which he frequently referred to as being 'The Next Great Adventure' he was also quite brave and resilient against the things he did fear. For example, it was said that he would rather have a peaceful, painless and unhumilating death, and he was willing to sacrifice his sanity, health and comfort and subject himself to severe pain if he thought it was needed.
However, in spite of all these extraordinary qualities, Dumbledore is far from perfect. He is prone to lies and secrecy, despite many people around him having proven themselves worthy of his trust. He spent a good portion of his youth discussing plans with Gellert Grindewald for global domination over Muggles. He isn't a deliberitly cruel man, but at times, he can be too far sighted, making choices that he believed to be for the benefit of humanity, even if it deeply hurt the people around him. Although this tendency towards this type of behaviour has decreased with age.
His greatest personality flaw is his desire for power. He eventually found that power is usually best suited to those who do not seek it. When he and Grindewald were in school, they both made plans to enslave the Muggle population and re-establish Wizards as the natural rulers of the world. However, he eventually fell from this fantasy when his sister was killed during a duel between him, His brother and Grindewald. This tragedy has led to him refusing any more power beyond that which he has as Headmaster of Hogwarts.
Albus is constantly haunted by this sad piece of Family history. He was, in particular, riddled with guilt over the death of his sister. He was extreamly remorseful over his selfishness, and was tortured by the fact that he might have been the one that cast the fateful spell that killed his sister. This was taken to the point that he refused to face Grindwald until there was no other choice, as he was fearful of about what his former friend might have known about the death of his sister. When he looks into the Mirror of Erised, he sees himself redeemed in his brothers eyes, and his family all alive and back together.
Dumbledore is indeed Gay, but, after his feelings for Grindewald affected his moral compass, he no longer trusts his judgement in matters of the heart. As such, he has become Asexual, and tends to lead a more Celibate, and bookish life.

HISTORY ;; Albus Dumbledore was born in the summer of 1881 to Kendra and Percival Dumbledore in the wizarding village of Mould-on-the-Wold. The early years of his life were marked with tragedy when a group of Muggle boys who had seen her performing magic, and were scared attacked his younger sister Ariana. Ariana was left mentally and emotionally scarred by the event, and her magical powers were left severely altered and would manifest themselves on rare occasions usually in random or destructive ways.
Albus’ father was left heartbroken, and set out in search of his own brand of justice. He tracked the boys down, and attacked them, as they had his daughter. Albus didn’t know what his father did to the boys, but it was assumed that he had used the Cruciatus curse on them, as he was later served a life sentence in Azkaban, where he later die.
To escape the accusing eyes of the wizarding world, Kendra moved the entire family to Godric’s Hollow, another wizarding village. All neighbors were rebuffed, with the eventual exception of Bathilda Bagshot, and Albus soon learnt not to mention his Father or Sister when out in public.
In the autumn of 1882, at the age of 11, Albus began attending Hogwarts, where he was sorted in Gryffindor house. Much of Albus’ first year was met with whisperings about his father’s crime. Many of his fellow Students mistakenly believed that like his father, Albus was anti-muggle as well. Some even praised his father’s actions, hoping to gain his trust, but they soon learned that this wouldn’t gain his favour.
On his first day at Hogwarts, Albus befriended a young Elphias Dodge. Dodge was suffering from Dragon Pox at the time, and as such, many refused to approach him. Albus however, demonstrated his uncommon kindness, and willingness to look past the surface, and find he inner beauty in people. During his years at school, he also made many connections, making notable friends such as Nicholas Flamel, Bathilda Bagshot and Griselda Marchbanks, who marked him for his N.E.W.Ts for Charms and Transfiguration and later recalled that he did extraordinary things with a wand. During his school years, he also had a number of his papers published. He also won the Barnabus Finkley prize for Exceptional Spell Casting, became the British Youth Representative to the Wizengamot, and received the Gold Medal for Ground Breaking Contribution to the International Alchemical Conference in Cairo.
During his Forth year, he accidently set fire to his bed curtains, though he later admitted he had never liked them anyway. During his fifth year, he was made a Prefect and during his Seventh, he was made Head boy. He has been considered the most brilliant student to ever attend the school.
In 1899, after graduating Hogwarts, Albus planned to take the grand tour of the world with Elphias Dodge, but on the eve of the night, they were supposed to leave, tragedy struck. Kendra was killed when Ariana had one her erratic magical outbursts.
This accident left Albus as the head of his family. Returning to Godric’s Hollow, Albus began to feel resentment at his situation, feeling trapped and wasted. However, fortune soon shone on him, when Bathilda introduced him to her nephew, Gellert Grindewald. It soon became apparent that Grindewald, who was in Godric’s Hollow to research the Deathly Hallows, was just as talented and brilliant as Albus. Albus quickly became fascinated by Grindewald’s ideas of Wizarding dominance, mainly because it gave him an unexpected second chance to show his own brilliance once more, and to escape his current misery. Albus also harbored romantic feelings for the other boy, but later in life, he regretted his relationship with him.
However, two months later, Albus was confronted by Aberforth over his neglect of Ariana in the past few weeks, telling him that he couldn’t carry out his plans, because he would have had to take her with him. However, Grindewald intervened, and used the Cruciatus Curse on Aberforth. Dumbledore himself then intervened, and a violent duel erupted between the three wizards. Ariana tried to intervene, but due to her erratic powers. She was unable to. During the duel, she was hit by a stray curse, and died. No one knew who had cast the fatal curse, but Grindewald, who already had a bad record, fled the scene immediately.
After Grindewald’s flight, and Ariana’s funeral, at which him and Aberforth had an argument that resulted in Aberforth breaking Albus’ nose, Albus took up a job at Hogwarts as the Transfiguration Professor. He was offered the position of Minister for Magic multiple times, but always turned it down, as he had learned that a desire for power was his greatest weakness. During this time, he also served as a recruiter for the school, and recruited many students to the school, most prominent of which was Tom Riddle.
However, whilst Dumbledore was educating young witches and wizards, Grindewald was still at large in Europe, building up an army, and had already discovered the Elder Wand, which he was using to terrorize the continent. Albus was afraid to face Grindewald, not because he thought he couldn’t defeat him, but because he was afraid that he could tell the Albus the truth about who killed Ariana. However, by 1945, Grindewald’s activities were becoming so severe, that Albus could no longer turn a blind eye. He tracked down his former friend, and dueled him, in what later became known as the most legendary duel ever fought between wizards. Dumbledore was able to defeat Grindewald despite the fact he was in possession of the Elder Wand. Albus imprisoned him in Nurmengard, which was originally built to Grindewald’s enemies. Albus then kept the Elder Wand for himself, which has remain one of his biggest secrets to this day.
Out of all the professors at Hogwarts, Dumbledore was the only one who wasn’t easily charmed by Tom Riddle. In their first encounter, Dumbledore became immediately suspicious of his ‘obvious instincts for cruelty, secrecy and domination’ and resolved to keep a close eye on him during his studies. As Dumbledore was not so easily taken by Riddle’s charm and charisma, Riddle came to both despise and fear him.
In 1943, many of the muggle-born students were mysteriously petrified by a beast rumored to have been released by the Heir of Slytherin from the mythical Chamber of Secrets. The final victim of the beast, Myrtle, was killed. This act seemed likely to ensure the closure of the school, which would have forced Riddle to go back to the orphanage. While Dumbledore suspected Riddle was behind the attacks, the young wizard managed to frame Aragog, an Acromantula tamed by Rubeus Hagrid as the beast, which resulted in Hagrid’s expulsion from the school. Dumbledore was never able to uncover any hard evidence implicating Riddle; he was able to convince Armardo Dippet, the current Headmaster, to keep Hagrid on as Groundskeeper-in-training.
In approximately 1956, Armardo Dippet left retired from Hogwarts, and the position of Headmaster was given to Albus. It was during this time that he was offered the position of Minister for Magic several times, but he always rejected the offer, as it had already been proven that his desire for power was his greatest weakness.
Shortly after he had been appointed Headmaster, Tom Riddle, now going by the name of Lord Voldemort, approached him, and with the same request, he had asked of Dippet. To be allowed to return to Hogwarts a teacher of Defense against the Dark Arts. However, Dumbledore, who had already heard of Voldemort’s illicit activities since he had left Hogwarts, refused him. This led to Voldemort cursing the position of Defense against the Dark Arts Professor, which prevented anybody from holding the position for more than a single school year.
When Remus Lupin became of age to attend Hogwarts, he was afraid that he wouldn’t be able to, as he had been infected by the werewolf, Fenrir Greyback. However, Dumbledore, being fair, believed that as long as special precautions were taken, there was no reason why he should be deprived off him education. As such, Albus prepared the Shrieking Shack as a place for Remus’ monthly transformations, planting the Whomping Willow as a guard. This gained Dumbledore Remus’ gratitude, as many other headmasters would’ve simply forbid the boy from even setting foot on school grounds. When Severus Snape discovered Remus’ secret, Dumbledore forbade him from ever telling anyone.
In 18970 when Voldemort first started rising to power, Dumbledore founded the Order of the Phoenix, a secret organization of witches and wizards who were willing to risk their lives to bring about the downfall of Voldemort and his Death Eaters. As he was the only wizard Voldemort had ever feared, Dumbledore was the perfect leader for this organization, and was a significant contributor to the fight against Voldemort.
Later on in the war, Dumbledore was approached by someone who wanted a job at Hogwarts. Sybil Trelawney was applying for the position of Divination Professor, a subject that Dumbledore disliked and thought was barely considered a part of necessary education for young witches and wizards, and was something he was considering getting rid of. He agreed to meet with her because she was the great-granddaughter of celebrated Seer Cassandra Trelawney. To his disappointed, however, when he was interviewing her at the Hog’s Head, he concluded that she wasn’t a real Seer. However, as he was leaving, she fell into a real trance, and made a prophecy about the birth of someone that would have the power to vanquish the dark lord, who would be born to those "who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies". This astonished Dumbledore, but it turned out that a Death Eater had been listening in and had overheard the prophecy, but had been caught in the act of spying, and was ejected from the tavern by Aberforth. Dumbledore promptly hired Trelawney in order to protect her from the Death Eaters.
Dumbledore later managed to find out that the prophecy referred to two children who had recently been born. Harry Potter, a Half-Blood born to Lilly and James Potter, and Neville Longbottom, a pure-blooded wizard born to Alice and Frank Longbottom. Dumbledore had no way of knowing which of the children Voldemort would go after, so he advised both families to go into hiding.
On the 30th October 1981, Voldemort arrived at the home of the Longbottom’s. Frank was killed first, and Alice was killed, refusing to give up Neville. After Alice was killed, Voldemort turned his wand to Neville, but the curse backfired, destroying the Dark Lord’s body, and leaving behind a single piece of his soul.
Neville was promptly taken to his grandmother’s house, who gladly took him in. The boy was brought up as a normal wizard, but a close eye was kept on him, as Death Eaters were still at large, and it was unknown if any of them would make an attempt on the boy’s life.
Shortly before the Longbottom's deaths, Dumbledore had borrowed James Potter’s Invisibility cloak. He saw this as part of the Deathly Hallows, and though he had long given up his dream of uniting the Hallows, he could not resist studying it. For a short time, Dumbledore was in possession of two of the Hallows, and only the resurrection stone remained. However, before long, Dumbledore returned the cloak back to James.
Ten years later, Neville started to attend Hogwarts, and was sorted into Gryffindor house. Dumbledore kept a close eye on the boy. Despite him being at Hogwarts, the boy could still be in trouble. Nothing happened in his first year, but Dumbledore still didn’t let his guard down. He was proven right, when in the boys second year, he was attacked. Although Neville didn’t think anything off it, Dumbledore was more wary, and started to get worried. Once again he was proven right, when the boy was attacked by a rouge Dementer. Whilst the boy was recovering in the hospital wing, Dumbledore paid him a visit, where he promised him that he would soon explain things to him, but not now. The boy was more wary now, and so was Dumbledore, and as such, he got in contact with some of the members of the order, and he got it started back up again. The Forth year passed without anything happening. The order was still around, but they weren’t put on full alert. The fifth year has just begun, and Dumbledore is keeping just as close an eye on Neville.

Albus Dumbledore was in his office. The year was 1991, and it was this year that Neville Longbottom was starting Hogwarts. Despite his young age, he had already been told what had happened to his, parents, and had been told, to a degree, the reason why. The prophecy had been explained to him, but he didn’t to what extent. And it wasn’t Albus’ place to tell him. At least not now. It was best to instead let him live his life.
He got up from his chair, and crossed to his closet. It was almost time for the Start of term feast, and it wouldn’t do for the headmaster to turn up late. He pulled out a crimson red robe, embroided with ancient runic symbols. To those who had taken ancient runes, they would make sense, to those who hadn’t it wouldn’t. To Dumbledore they made perfect sense. Oak, Ash, Birch, Day and Joy repeating in an endless pattern. It didn’t make sense to anyone, Albus included. They had been chosen at random, but he was sure there would be a reason behind them, if he took the time to think about it someday. But now wasn’t that day. Tonight it was time to welcome the new first years.
Down in the hall, he watched as Minerva brought the new students in, his eyes watching for Neville to enter the hall, and soon enough, he found him. As always, he watched the sorting with interest. But when it was Neville’s turn, he watched more closely, as him and the sorting hat seemed to be having some kind of disagreement, but soon enough, he was put into Gryffindor. And soon after that, the rest of the sorting was finished. McGonagall rolled up her piece of parchment, and took the stool away. When she was back, Albus stood, and any chattering that had been going on in the hall immediately stopped.
He spread his arms in welcome, and said, “Good evening everyone. To our new students, Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and to our old students, welcome back. I have a few, beginning of year announcements, but I know how much you all are looking forward to our wondrous feast, so I shan’t keep you waiting. So now I shall simply say, Tuck in.” As he sat back down, the food appeared on the plates, the talking resumed, and the eating began.
