Seamus Finnigan Aw! Not again! Detention for the – how many times was it now? Seamus wasn’t sure, as he had lost count. Seriously did people not get that sometimes he couldn’t help it when something exploded and this, this was certainly not his fault not in the least! Of course Snape was never one to reason with and Seamus threw his book against the wall once he got to dorm room. Neville had been sent on without him and he was honestly too mad to actually take the time to meet up with his friends. He gave his trunk a solid kick before crashing onto his bed in an angry huff, how long he lay there arms folded and glaring at the ceiling was unknown but when Seamus woke it was near dusk. He was going to miss dinner wasn’t he? With an angry sigh Seamus rubbed his head with his short hair and traversed through the castle, passing the open Great Hall where everyone save for him was having a grand time dining on, was that roast chicken? Seamus’ mouth salivated at the thought of it but he trudged on as he didn’t even really have the time to grab a simple dinner role. When Seamus arrived at Hagrid’s hut he was surprised to see that he wasn’t alone after all, there was a first year girl Hufflepuff he’d wager and a Ravenclaw he slightly recognized from the reserve team who seemed to have something of an attitude problem. Did all the teachers decide detention was with Hagrid or was it all the doing of Snape? Seamus didn’t really care he just wanted to get this done and over with so that he could get back to the castle and see if he could drop by the kitchens to rustle up some food as he was already hungry considering he had accidentally slept though most of it. “Alrigh’ you lot,’’ started Hagrid in bit of a gruff voice it looked like he didn’t know what to do about the crying first year. “We’re gonna be goin’ in to the Forbidden Forest. “There was a sound of protest from the Ravenclaw, and the Hufflepuff started to cry more, while Seamus’ eyes darted to the forest. He knew how dangerous the forest could be he remembered treading a bit too close to the forest edge once with Neville and Luna and they were attacked. It could be dismissed as a random beast attack but Seamus knew better as he helped to ward it off of them. The memory and the idea of going into the forest gave him a slight shudder the only comfort was that Neville who he secretly assumed was the target wasn’t present. “It’ll be alright! I know a few creatures of the forest and as long as we mean most of them no harm it’ll be fine.”The Ravenclaw at that point decided to strike up an argument that was more a matter of twisting words and trying to confuse people which Seamus ignored for a few minutes as he tried to peer into the forest before reaching the point of knowing that the sooner they went in the better because the idea of going in looming over his head did not sit well with him. “Why don ya just shut up and deal with it?” he snapped at the Ravenclaw. “We’re goin’ in so ya might as well accept it.” It was true he was cross and his tone seemed to shut the blathering idiot up. Funny the thought of a Ravenclaw being an idiot. “Right then,” spoke Hagrid cocking his crossbow, “We’d bes’ move along. Madame Pomfrey asked me tah get some special ingredients for a few medical things. Do ya know what the Dittany plant looks like?”Seamus nodded his head, while the first year shook hers and the Ravenclaw went on another long winded speech about the plant and how he shouldn’t have to go into the forest. ”Al’right seen as you two know what yer lookin for you two will be together and then you an I will go together.” Hargid gestured to Seamus and the Ravenclaw and then to the girl and himself. The Ravenclaw started to protest even more and that is where Seamus had finally had enough, ”Jus shut up will ya?”This left the Ravenclaw boy standing there with his mouth hanging open not a word more leaving his mouth. ”If yeh need any help fire red sparks. Yeh find Dittany fire green ones. I’ll fire yellah when we’re done fer the night.”Seamus nodded and started walking toward the forest not caring to hear any more though really he knew he was in for an earful as the Ravenclaw followed him and started telling him off as well. Seriously, what was with him? ”Yah know I really don’t care. It’s a detention and I want ta get it done in peace, and your talkin’ doesn’t help much.”His words finally got the Ravenclaw to stop talking but he knew he had not made any friends with the bloke but Seamus was really too tired to care and continued looking for Dittany which seemed impossible to find in the roughed up dirt that was covered in all manner of plants that clearly weren’t Dittany. Not to mention that as he was looking he tried to keep his eyes peeled for any danger. Seamus was no fool and knew there were great dangers there in the forest. It was kind of stupid really to send students out into the forest as punishment. What happened to a nice trophy polishing or caldron scrubbing, even cleaning the bathrooms ranked above this! This, his life was in potential danger, and it seemed that the Ravenclaw knew it, because as they were searching he wondered off leaving Seamus alone. ”Bloody idiot,” Seamus mumbled to himself as he continued on with his task. Maybe the sooner they found Dittany the sooner they could be done for the night, but Seamus didn’t get much further when he heard a movement there in the forest. He stopped wand raised. To hell with red sparks he was going to defend himself first and then think about shooting red sparks. Of course he didn’t want to fire spells right off as it could be his wayward partner, and as a result he called out. ”Oi! Stop being a tosser and quit mucking about!”Seamus waited keeping perfectly still wand raised and not moving and heard absolutely nothing. He waited another beat and then shuffled one foot slowly forward and then the other and there it was again the noise only louder and closer and not stopping! ”I’m warning ya!” called out Seamus as spells started to go through his mind he was ready and waiting, when it was on top of him and he had to duck rather than fire a spell. ”Bloody hell!” he cursed as he turned to look over his shoulder. Was that? It was a full on blooming unicorn, and it nearly impaled him! What the sodding hell was a unicorn doing running as if it were running for its life? No sooner did the thought run across Seamus mind did he find himself caught off guard and pinned to the ground by a wolf. There was a fleeting thought that it was a werewolf as Seamus used what little sense in that moment he had and was able to fire a spell at the creature that took his wand work a lot better than most werewolves and as that creature lay on the ground injured and hardly conscious Seamus realized that it was not a full moon. Of course the characteristics he learned from Lupin played through his mind and he verified that it was a regular wolf Seamus realized that those things were not things you had the time to look for when faced with an attacking wolf. It was in that moment that Seamus thought of sending off red sparks considering he had just almost gotten eaten by a wolf. He was roughed up pretty badly he was bleeding from where the wolf’s paws dug in to him when it pounced him but he really wasn’t in any present danger. Yet it seemed that someone else was in danger like he almost was, he saw the clear markings of red sparks. ”Shite,” cursed Seamus figuring it to be his partner and took off at a full run, sure the bloke was a pain in the ass but really the guy didn’t deserve to die, and he was probably the closest one to him. For a Ravenclaw, he was an idiot. It was as he got near the location of the sparks that Seamus had to work to slow down and come to a stop before he found himself in the same predicament as the Ravenclaw. He barely saw it in time and it was the remaining red glow of the sparks that were earlier set off that caused Seamus to see it. It was a giant sized spider web. Panting Seamus breathed his wonderment, ”What the? He couldn’t quite finish the sentence. The Ravenclaw continued to jerk around fighting to get free and making matters worse for himself, and only bad thoughts could some to Seamus mind. Acromantual? In the forest? This was a topic hardly covered by Professor Lupin when he was teaching. What was it that the professor had said? ”Stop movin!” bellowed out Seamus as he looked for a way around the web to get to the Ravenclaw who had stopped and was desperately searching for the face with the voice. ”Who’s there?” he called out the haughty tone gone and nothing but fear remaining in his voice. ”Don’t be such an idiot? Who else do ya think?” asked Semus surprised by how stupid the guy could be. ”Finnigan? Get me out of here!” The Ravenclaw started to twist and move once more despite what Seamus had just said. ”Quit movin’! Yer makin’ things worse and only callin’ ‘em faster!” Seamus was ready to kill the kid for being such an idiot. Really he thought Ravenclaws were supposed to be smart! ”Them? Who’s them?” asked the boy, his voice cracking in fear. ”Acromantula”That simple answer caused the Ravenclaw to over react and fight all the more and there was nothing Seamus could do he couldn’t get close enough to help without being caught himself and then he could hear it just faintly the rustle of the eight legs that caused the hairs on the back of his neck and arms to stand on end. There was a slight clicking that followed the rustle and Seamus wasn’t sure what to do. Lupin didn’t cover the spell on the overly large spiders as that was a fifth year level spell and wasn’t something that had been covered by Umbridge and he doubted it would be. If he ever got out of this alive he was going to ask Luna if she knew and if she didn’t he’d find someone that knew cause he wasn’t going to mess around with these creatures ever again! It was then that the Ravenclaw saw the Acromantula and started to scream and continued to fight to get out of the web. The creature reared up on it’s ugly back legs and was ready to attack when Hagrid’s big booming voice bellowed, ”NO!” He stood in the way of the spider and the boy and the Acromantula landed on it’s front legs without an attack. ”It is ours, we must feed!” it hissed in an unnatural voice. ”He’s under my protention!” answered Hagrid standing his ground. ”He has wandered so far, and we can have what wanders into our forest.”Not ‘im!”It was clear that Hagrid wasn’t going to back down and it seemed to Seamus like there might be a fight between the two but finally the spider backed away giving up its prey. Once the acromantula was gone Hagrid turned to the boy who was still squirming to get free. ”Quit yer movin’ At this rate I’ll never get yeh down and then I’ll have ta leave ya to the spiders.” gruffed Haggrid as he reached out and started to pull the Ravenclaw from his prison in a way that no normal person could but then again Hagrid wasn’t normal and Seamus wouldn’t have been surprised to learn the man was half giant or something. ”Now where’s Seamus?” he asked of the boy. ”Here!” Seamus called out stepping forward. ”I wasn’t sure what to do.” He hated admitting that as he didn’t like that he took no action. ”I heard ya tell im not to move which was smart of yah. Jus’ glad ya weren’t caught too,” answered Hagrid with a smile. Seamus was about to ask where the Hufflepuff girl was when she timidly came forward from her hiding spot eyes wide with fear though not as fearful as the Ravenclaw boy was. ”Are ya all alright?” asked Hagrid looking over the lot of them. Everyone including Seamus managed to nod their head to which Hargid gave a curt one in return. ”I think we’re done fer the night.” He answered solemnly as he led the pack out of the forest. Seamus had a feeling that there weren’t going to be any more detentions in the Forbidden Forest after this current episode, because Seamus knew they were lucky to be alive.

Geminus Rattagin Okay then. Gem would be the first to admit that it wasn’t a good idea for him, Darell and Chasidy to sneak out of the castle for a midnight castle wonder. But, to be fair, they had done it multiple times if the past few years, and never once had they actually been caught. In his mind that was still pretty awesome. For three years they had avoided capture, and now, because Darell had been stupid to play a trick on Chasidy, they had been caught by Filch. Of course he had dragged them into his office so that he could fill out the appropriate forms to have them disciplined, all the while muttering how he missed the good old days when he could hang students by their wrists from the ceiling and whip them so they couldn’t sit down for a week. But of course he couldn’t, so instead he sat there mumbling and groaning. And then, the inevitable happened. Professors McGonagall and Flitwick were brought down to give their punishments. Professor Flitwick was okay really, he just said he felt disappointed in me and Darell. That hurt the most. We both really love Flitwick. We both felt sorry for Chasidy, cause McGonagall was worse on her. Then the punishment. It was the one thing they argued on. Flitwick was all for giving us all lines, and having done with it, but McGonagall wanted something a bit harsher, that would make sure we didn’t do it again. In the end it was decided. 15 house points from each house, and a detention with Hagrid Saturday night.
Saturday came quickly enough, and at 10 O’Clock promptly, the three of them assembled in the main hall. The winter weather had got to all of them, as they were all wrapped up in Winter cloak’s, complete with hats. They had left off the gloves as they had no idea what Hagrid would be making them do. Instead once they got outside, Gem quickly pulled out his wand, and cast a Heating charm on them. Almost instantly they felt the Warm air engulf them. Hopefully, that would keep them warm for the duration of the evening. If not, he could always cast the charm again. “Where’s Hagrid. It’s freezing out here.” Gem hated to badmouth Chasidy, but that was one of the things that was really wrong with her. She complained an awful lot. He sometimes wondered how she was placed into Gryffindor, but, obviously, the Hat had seen something in her that was Gryffindor worthy. But almost as soon as the words had left her mouth, Hagrids voice floated out of the darkness a few metres ahead of them. “Over her you lot.” There was the sound a match being struck, and then a lantern was lit, and Hagrids face was lit up in front of them. The three of them moved forward quickly, and when they reached Hagrid, he spoke again, “Now, my original plan this evening was to set up for the third task of this tournament, but, see as how this one.. he pointed at Gem at this point, “Is here with us, I’ve had to alter my original plan. Instead, we’re going to be scouting out the Dark Forest. It’s just something that needs to be done before the next goes ahead. Obviously, because of You-Know-Who, I can’t say any more. I know it’s dangerous, but you lot seem more than capable of it. Right, let’s not dilly-dally any more. The quicker it’s done, the quicker we can go home.” With those words, he turned around, grabbed his crossbow which had been lying against the side of his house, and headed off into the direction of the Dark Forest. Gem had to admit, he was surprised at the fact that Chasidy hadn’t yet complained about being in the Dark forest, but he guessed she was just holding it together for the sake of it.
They had soon entered the Forest, and the light of the Castle was soon no more than a small speck, hidden behind the tall trees. At Hagrids urging, they all pulled out their wands and lit them, creating a slightly bigger shaft of light than before. It was odd. Despite having been in here many a time before, Gem couldn’t help but feel slightly more worried. Then again, there was something different about being in here without the help of being a Werewolf. And unfortunately, the teachers couldn’t have chosen a worse time for him to be here. This time Tuesday, he would be in her again, but as a Werewolf. This meant that the beast, which Gem tried so hard to control, was closer to the surface than normal. He was slightly more on edge, and being as he was, and considering where he was, it was going to be a lot harder to control himself.
Despite being more worried in here, it was still quite a nice place to be. To Gem anyway. Okay, yes. With just his wand and his knowledge to protect him, it was a worrying place to be. Especially since he knew what sort of things lurked in this place, and in those trees. And of course there was Hagrid to protect. Like most people who went into the Dark Forest with Hagrid, he always felt protected. Stepping into a small glade, things suddenly seemed a bit darker. He turned around, and prepared to confront the others. “What’s up with the sudd....en lack of....” his voice trailed off at the end, and he never finished his sentence, cause now he saw why there was no lack of light. A cloud had passed over the moon, which had been shining quite bright for some time. The others were nowhere to be seen, and by the look of things, he had been on his own for some time. The moon had been giving the illusion that the others were still there cause of its brightness. Not for the first time in his life, and certainly not for the last, he cursed at the moon. Practically all of his life, it had been nothing but trouble for him.
Now came the hard part. There was actually no telling how long he had been on his own, and therefore no way of telling where they were. He considered trying to backtrack his footsteps, and trying to find the others, but that would be no use. Even if he did find where the others had been, there was still no telling where they’d be now, and it was no use trying to find a path, cause they hadn’t been following a path for ages. Nope, all he could do now, was send up sparks, as was natural for all wizards in distress, and hope the others found him. Before something else did. No, he couldn’t afford to think like that. He had to keep a clear head and think about it logically and rationally. He was a Ravenclaw for God’s sake, and Rattagin. Rattagins never lost their head or their cool during moments of crisis. He raised his wand high into the air, and sent the sparks high, they stayed there, suspended in midair, marking his spot. Now all he could do was wait, and hope someone spotted them.
He couldn’t afford to move now. He would have to stay where he was. He spotted a rock, near the edge of the glade, and hurried over to it, and promptly plonked himself down on it. There wasn’t really anywhere else he could sit. As he sat, he tried to keep himself calm. As a young child, he had suffered from panic attacks, but they hadn’t surfaced in ages. But right now, for some strange reason, he seemed to be on the verge of having one. Instead of trying force it away, he tried to remind himself that it was just a state of mind. He could make it through this. He forced himself to control his breathing. In, hold for five, out. In, hold for five, out. He repeated this whilst forcing himself to think of something else. He began to stare at the ground, and began to count the number of leaves he could find. By the time he got to 20, his panic had began to subside. He breathed out one last time. It seemed to have gone. That was, until he heard the rustling behind him. He slowly turned around, bringing his wand with him, and walked slowly toward the source of the noise. In, breath for five, out. Again and again he did this. The Wand-Light fell on a tree, and he shone the light upward as he heard the noise again. When he saw what it was, he could have laughed out loud. It was just a Bowtruckle. The little thing had spotted some woodlice and had been climbing through the leaves to get to it.
Gem turned around, laughing slightly, and that was when things got that tiny bit more dangerous. The first indicator that something was wrong, was when he heard a strange hissing noise, which he definitely hadn’t heard before. The source of the noise was very easy to find, owing to the fact the creature was livid orange and had three heads. The only thing that made it slightly hard to see was the black stripes across its body. A Runespoor. A creature only heard of in his Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them and this was a rare one, as it still had all three heads, which made it all the more dangerous to Gem, seeing as how the right head had extremely venomous fangs. He would have to careful here. The Runespoor hadn’t seen him yet. He momentarily wondered what the creature was doing here in Europe. It was only supposed to found in Burkina Faso. But he would wonder about that later. Right now, he had to figure out how he was going to get rid of the creature and survive. He tried to remember what he could about Runespoor’s. Unfortunately, his book made no reference on how to deal with the creature, seeing as how most of the time, they killed themselves by biting the right head off.
He could try to attack it, but he didn’t know what spells, if any, that would be effective against a Runespoor. A simple attacking spell, but that might be ineffective, and if it was then all he would've succeeded in doing was making the creature angry, and if that was the case, then he would just be endangering himself even more. He could wait for Hagrid, but he didn’t know how far away Hagrid was, and by the time he got to Gem, it might be too late. Gem cursed silently under his breath. He didn’t dare make any loud noises, in case it attracted the snakes attention.
He thought for the next few seconds, but it seemed he could safe. Through the trees, he could see another shape. He wasn’t sure if it was friendly, but it could be. He prayed silently. “Please be someone, or something friendly. Or at least an enemy to the Runespoor” It was only small, but that didn’t mean anything. As it got closer, he saw it was another Bowtruckle. The sound of it approaching seemed to momentarily distract the Runespoor, and Gem decided it was now or never. Summoning all of his strength, he pointed his wand at the Runespoor, and whispered ever so slightly. “Vipera Evenesca.” With a bright flash, the snake dissapeared, leaving behind only a tiny bit of ash. He breath a sigh of relief. Hopefully, Hagrid would get here soon, before he was almost killed again.
