It was one of those days, Cali just wanted to be outside. Lessons had just finished and she had ran up to take her stuff to her dorm and change clothes and now she was on her way out! She had been daydreaming about the lake all day. All she wanted to do was go outside and bask in the sunshine and hopefully someone would come along to keep her company and maybe she would get to go on an adventure or two today. She was feeling rather spunky. She smiled at people as they passed and said hi to everyone she knew unable to help herself of course. She couldn’t help it she was overly friendly, but her mother had always told her growing up ‘If you don’t smile at people you don’t give them the option to be your friend. You don’t want to grow up alone and friendless so be nice.’ In her opinion these had been words to live by and she always did.
Cali was the kind of girl who knew a lot of people and was close to few and had only one or two people she would consider best friends. She had met almost everyone at Hogwarts at least once since she had been there. Just because she had met them doesn’t mean they remembered her, although she had been told a time or two that she was not exactly easy to forget. She was half veela and had a certain charm about her. She liked having this ‘charm’ so to speak because it made it so easy to talk to people, which she loved anyway.
She smiled as she walked out the front doors and the sunshine hit her face. She looked around taking a deep breath in and smiled, ’fresh air about time.’ She thought as she took off toward the lake. She smiled as she saw her favorite tree was unoccupied so she wouldn’t feel as though she was butting in on someone elses conversation. It was a huge tree it’s branches overhung the lake and shaded a pretty large area. She kept smiling as she walked over to it and sat down under it at the edge of the lake taking her shoes off and dipping her feet in. It was a little cool, but Cali didn’t mind as of right now it was perfect. The only thing that could make it any better would be someone to talk to.

”And perhaps, one of the most famous cases of the breach of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, is the 1932 Ilfracombe Incident, in which a rogue Common Welsh Dragon attacked a group a sunbathers at Ilfracombe, in Devon, England. Luckily, a wizarding family was holidaying nearby, and proceeded to chase the dragon off, and then cast the largest known memory charm of the 20th century. However, despite this, one Muggle escaped, who still to this day claims a dirty great wizard punctured his lilo. However, he has been labeled crazy by the Muggle community, and is called Dodgy Dirk. At this point the bell rang, and the Professor said, ”Alright, Homework. Compile a case history on breaches of Clause 72, to be handed in next lesson.
Despite the fact, he knew that his next Magical Law was only in a few days, Gem could not be asked to spend the day inside. No. This morning he had overslept, and it had meant he had not had time to go for his morning jog. Being a Werewolf could really bugger up your sleeping pattern at times. The first thing he did was stuff his book, notes and equipment into his bag, and headed straight up to Ravenclaw Tower, answered the riddle, headed into his dorm, put his stiff in his trunk, and pulled on his running gear. He headed out his room, out of the tower, jogged his way down to the doors, and stepped out of the castle into the fresh air.
He breathed in the fresh air, and then set off at a gentle pace around the grounds. He enjoyed running. Over the years he had trained himself to be able to tune out the people around him, which gave him a chance to be alone with his thoughts. He never really thought about anything in particular. Usually just about this and that. However, today he found himself thinking about Cali Cole. Once again before the holidays had ended, they had tried to have a relationship, but as with all the other times, it hadn’t worked out, and they had split up. The fact remained that every time they split up, they still managed to stay friend. As exhibited by them spending most of the summer sending Owls to each other.
As he approached the lake, he slowed down a little, and stopped a little to look out across the lake. He had always appreciated the beauty of the lake, and tended to swim it quite a bit. But he hadn’t picked up his swim, so he’d have to wait until the morning, or tomorrow afternoon. He set off at a nice slow pace, not really looking where he was going, and promptly ran straight into someone.

Cali smiled as she let her mind wander, she was thinking about him again. Gem. She had missed him over the summer and hadn’t yet seen him around which was a little odd. She smiled as she closed her eyes letting her mind go. She really did like Gem it was just that things hadn’t worked out. She wasn’t for sure if it was bad timing or what was going on but most of the time they would be together for a little while then split but still keep in contact, which was odd for most romantic pairings their age. Most people their age would get together and when they split it was over something like cheating or things of that nature that would cause you not to be friends anymore. Cali and Gem had never been like that it was more of an understanding, but they always tried it anyway.
She layed down keeping her feet in the water for a bit longer looking at the tree, it was so pretty. Looking at the leaves and how the sun shone through them lighting up the leaves making them especially green. She smiled thinking about how everything in life was beautiful if put into the right light. She often thought of things like this and tried to find beauty in everyday life. Actually she was surprisingly good at it seeing beauty in places others may not even if she was not very good at explaining it sometimes. She wasn’t good at explaining most things although she often tried sometimes it seemed as though she rambled on because of this.
It was a nice warm day outside and Cali was thinking about going for a walk. She put her shoes back on and stood up looking around. She wasn’t for sure which way she wanted to go just that she wanted to go. She sighed as she turned and someone ran straight into her. She stumbled back a little, “Hey.” She said a little angry before looking up and seeing Gem. Her face immediately broke into a smile she wasn’t able to help herself. “Where are you going in such a hurry?” She asked kidding. She knew he was going for a run, he did every day that he had the chance. “Haven’t seen you around, have you been hiding from me?” She said again playfully. She didn’t know why but every time he was around she was generally playful. ‘He is looking pretty good. Gosh I’ve missed him.’ She thought to herself making herself blush a little.

When be ran, Gem alway allowed his mind wander. What with him being able to quite easily block put any and all unwanted noise, it gave him a chance to reflect upon any thoughts that he had to push to the back of his mind every lesson. It was one of the main reasons he went running and swimming. Well, that and it was a great way to keep fit and in shape. As had happened often over the summer, he once again found himself thinking of Cali. As she slipped into his thoughts, he allowed himself a small smile. Okay, so yes, once again they had broken up, and his friends again called him an idiot for letting a great girl like Cali go. And yes, he constantly berated himself for it, but they always seemed to break up over the same thing. What was his secret. But he couldn't tell her what he was, not without fear of being judged. He hated not telling her. She was quite possibly the one person he could trust the most. And here was his biggest secret, and he couldn't tell her. It was plain and simple that he liked her. But every time they dated, it was the same story. Meet, date, break up, meet. It was an endless cycle, one he wished would end.
He bought himself to a halt, and looked out across the lake. As usual, it was beautiful. Having a wolf inside you, even if it was a, deadly, ferocious beast when left unchecked, gave him a certain affinity with nature. Unusually, unlike most werewolves, he also had an affinity for animals, whereas most of the time, animals tended to avoid werewolves. They sensed a ferocious beast, and were scared off. But not Gem. To an extent, he had the beast under control, and it was harder for animals to sense it. As such, he was quite possibly one of the only werewolves who was actually passing Care of Magical Creatures. He sighed, and set again.
After he crashed into the girl, he heard, slightly angrily, “Hey.” He was about to respond in kind, when he caught a look at her. It was the very girl who had just been in his mind. Cali. Hey. And he did the first thing that came to mind. He pulled her into a hug. After he released her, she said, “Where are you going in such a hurry?” He couldn't help but respond with, Well by the looks of things, running into you. Literally. He had the cocky smile on his face that was generally only used around her, and a couple of other people. “Haven’t seen you around, have you been hiding from me?” He gave her another smile. Why my dear Calista. I don't know what you mean. I've just been busy. You on the other hand have made absolutely no attempt to find me. It's completely your own fault. He said, turning away from her and crossing his arms. I forgot how good she looked. I've missed her so much

Cali smiled returning his hug, it felt so good to be able to hug him again. She let go when he did thinking about the last time she had seen him. They had gotten into one of the biggest fights they had ever had, he had a secret and wouldn’t tell her. It infuriated her because she trusted him so much and really did like him, but he wouldn’t tell her. There was nothing that would be so bad that would make her not like him, unless he was really a girl or something. But, even then she sometimes had a thing for girls so that would probably be ok with her. Although, she knew for sure he was defiantly not a girl.
“Well I’m glad you ran into me.” She said smiling a bit. “It’s always nice to see a friend.” She said, she had been using the term friend very loosly they were more than that, but just not right now. She hated having to refer to herself as just a friend when it came to Gem but she had no choice, if he couldn’t trust her with his secret she was not for sure how well this relationship was going to work out. He knew she was half veela, as did most of the school there was really no way to hide that, but he also knew that she was a bit insecure about it and she had trusted him with that.
Cali looked into his eyes as he smiled at her, ‘Why does he have to look so good today?’ She thought trying not to look at him too much, he was a bit cocky anyway. “Oh is it Calista now? Should I start calling you Geminus again?” She said playfully laughing about it a little, she would never call him by his full name she knew him as Gem when they weren’t dating and by Gem or James when they were. “As surprising as it may sound I have been very busy too.” She commented, she had been busy lately with going to see Madame Pomfrey and learning everything she could about healing. She wanted to be a healer to help people out so badly and she would be, it was just going to take her concentrating. Earlier in the week she had thought about going and finding Gem, but then she had heard about an explosion that happened in one of the third year potions classes and immediately made her way up to the hospital wing to learn how to deal with that type of thing. It was specific for what had happened so all experience she could get was better than none.
As he turned away from her and crossed his arms she put her hands on her hips, not in a mad sort of way. She wasn’t upset at all it was more of a habit and she did it often. She turned and looked out over the lake, ”It’s such a pretty day out today.” She commented in an off hand sort of way. She knew that Gem was outside a lot as was she, they both liked to be out so she figured this was an ok thing to say.

As he knew that she would, she returned his hug. Despite everything, they still remained good friends. If he was being truthful with himself, whenever people asked why they had broken up this time, he always downplayed it. He just told them things weren’t working out as well as they had hoped, and had come to an understanding. Whereas in reality, they had had one of the biggest fights they had ever had. He had his secret, and he wanted to tell her so badly, but he was afraid of being judged. It wouldn’t be the first time. His own father judged him. He tried not to show it, but Gem had grown up with the man, and he knew how he felt about all types of creature, be it a Half-breed, like a werewolf, a full one, like a Vampire. The fight had been really bad. It had actually taken place the day before the full moon, and they had been sat outside, She asked if he wanted to meet up tomorrow night, and he had to tell her that he couldn’t, and when she pressed him for answers, he had told her that he couldn’t tell her, and things had just escalated, and had ended with Gem saying that they shouldn’t see each other if she couldn’t trust him, and stormed off. He was worried that he had not only ruined the relationship, but the friendship as well, and was both surprised and happy when he had gotten her first owl during the summer. He had replied back, and apologised for what he had said, but he also said that unless it was a matter of life and death, he couldn’t tell her what was wrong. And from there on out, things had gradually gotten better, and before long, they were back to their normal selves.
He laughed at that, In this case, I literally did run into you. Yeah it always is. Especially when you haven’t seen said friend for a good couple of months. he said smiling at her. He also smiled when he was around her. There was something about her that always made him smile. And it wasn’t just her Veela Charm. Oddly enough, that never seemed to affect him. He had always put it down to him being a werewolf. He wasn’t quite sure that the term friend applied to them, because they weren’t always friends. It was, at the very least, a loose term for them. They were both very open with each other, and he had trusted her with quite a few of his secrets. Apart for his werewolf one, the biggest one he had trusted her with, was his desire to work in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, more specifically in the International Magical Office of Law. But his father wanted him to join the Department of Magical Law Enforcement as an Auror or Hit Wizard. But he didn’t want that. That was his father’s dream, not his. H had also told her about him joining a couple of groups for Magical Creature Equal Rights.
You can call me what Cali, it’s never stopped you before he said using the name he tended to give her all the time. He called her Rose occasionally, but that happened very rarely. No, she was always Cali to him. I never said you hadn’t been busy, I just said that I had been too busy to come and find you. Which was kinda true. He had thought about going to the hospital earlier in the week, as he knew that she worked there, but once he got wind of the potion class explosion, he had decided against it. She would be pretty busy, and he would just be in the way.
Out the corner of her eyes, he saw her turn away and put her hands on her hips, but he knew that she wasn’t angry, or upset. No. It was just a habit of hers. One of many that Gem knew she had. Just like she knew about most of his. His most prominent one was his ability to seamlessly slip in and out of Irish whenever he wanted to. He heard her off handed comment about how pretty out it was. He un folded his arms, and went to stand next to her. Yeah it really is. It’s a nice view out. That’s for sure It was one of the many things that seemed to constantly draw Gem to her. They were both outside a lot, and both a deep appreciation for nature. Most of his relatives thought that it was odd, seeing as how no other family members seemed to be interested in nature. He knew that it was because of the wolf in him. It sharpened his senses, and allowed him to have a greater appreciation for things like that. No-one else in his family could truly appreciate the sounds of birds sings, or the sound the wind made when it whistled through the trees, or the true smell of most of the flowers, or see how truly beautiful creatures of the outside world were. But he could. And so it deepened his appreciation for nature.

She smiled at him and said playfully, “It’s always good to see a friend. Although, we are not really friends I don’t know how to categorize us so I guess as bad of a word as it was, it was my only choice.” She grinned a little looking up at him. She was messing with him and was hoping he didn’t get mad. She had a feeling he would understand what she was saying, he often did even if it sounded half crazy.
Cali looked at Gem and said, “I know I call you whatever I feel like calling you on said day, but it’s usually Gem. Unless you aggravate me then everything changes.” She smiled a little looking at the ground. It was completely true, she often used other names like James or Geminus when she was aggravated or angry with him. She never wanted to use the name she used all the time when she was mad, although it was very rare that this happened. They did not often fight, in fact the only time they really fought was when she could tell he was keeping the secret from her and she would get infuriated. This was odd for Cali as she very rarely got mad, she preferred to be known as a sweet heart not a mad person. “Well, just as you were too busy to come find me I have been too busy to come find you. Madame Pomfrey has had me down in the hospital wing a lot teaching me stuff that she says ‘I will absolutely need to know!’” Cali smiled thinking about it, that woman was half crazy sometimes but she loved that about her. Madame Pomfrey had been having Cali come down and work on new potions with her often times having Cali assist her in the making and asking Cali for her opinion. Cali was pretty good in potions even if Professor Snape made it seem as though she was not. So, as a consequence Cali had very little free time lately, but she didn’t want to tell Gem all of this because even though she was acting like everything was normal she was still a little set back to him not telling her his secret. So, she wouldn’t tell him too many details about her life until she felt completely comfortable again. This often didn’t take long but it was more of her being stubborn that actually upset with Gem.
Cali saw Gem come and stand next to her, “I saw the prettiest view the other day. I was on my way up to the hospital wing and the sun was setting. I stopped and looked out one of the windows on my way there, it was absolutely gorgeous. The shadows were lengthening and the sky was so very pretty. But, I couldn’t come outside to watch it because I had to go see Madame Pomfrey.” She said thinking about it, Cali never really knew why she loved nature so much. It was probably because of the immense beauty it had. Most people did not understand when she talked about it and would most of the time cut herself short when she got in the mood to talk about how pretty it was, but Gem understood and this was one of the points they bonded on. They both loved the outdoors, everything about it and most of their relationship had been based outside. They were outside all the time, but that was just because it fit both of their personalities and they both loved it so it worked.
“So, what have you been so busy with?” Cali asked looking over the lake watching one of the squids giant tentacles rise out of the water lazily. She smiled a little at the sight, she loved that squid. He was amazing, it was hard to imagine something being that big and she had always wanted to see his full size, although she knew that probably would not be happening anytime soon. She changed her gaze looking up at the castle, how could anyone want to stay inside on a nice day like this? She just couldn’t get it through her head, but then again she knew not everyone liked being outside.

Geminus smiled back at her when she said about them not really being able to class themselves as friends. As per usual, the two of them had been thinking along the same lines. It was one of the many things that made there, “Relationship” interesting. Despite everything, the two of them always seemed to be able to understand each other, even when they seemed to be talking absolute nonsense. You have a good point there my ‘Friend’ he said smiling, putting emphasis on the word friend.
He looked at her with fake shock on his face. My dear Cali whenever have I aggravated you He left a couple of seconds before saying On second thoughts, don’t answer that. He smiled before laughing again. The two of them rarely did argue. When that happened, they tended to call each other by their full names. He became Geminus or James, and she became Calista. Apart from those Extremely rare moments when they did argue, he stayed as Gem, and she stayed as Cali. Gem hated to argue with her, because it was a rare time when she became irritated and angry, and not her usual, bubbly, charming self, and the one time he truly let his wolf side take over. The only real reason he had lost it with her was because they had argued right before he was due to change, and the beast was harder to control. Had it been a few weeks earlier, he wouldn’t have snapped at her. Well, I’d hate to drag you away from Madame Pomfrey. I know how much you want to become a Healer Which was true. He did. She wanted to a healer almost as much as he wanted to work in the International Magical Office of Law. He knew how hard Potions was, and he knew that it was a vital part of being a healer. However he also knew that Professor Snape tended to think that practically everyone was rubbish at Potions. Unless they were in his house. In that case, you were perfect.
Even though Gem knew things were slowly getting back to normal with the pair of them, he knew that things were still going to be sore with them, because for the past few years he had shared practically every secret with her. He had basically opened himself up to her, but on that one night, he had refused to, and had kept himself closed tighter than a 12 year old girl’s diary. As such, they were now a bit wary with each other, and weren’t exactly telling everything like they used to.
He listened intently as she explained about what she had seen. He always listened intently whenever she talked about nature. He had never before met someone who could quite describe nature as she could. Whenever she did, he could almost see what she was talking about. He looked out across the lake, and said, That sounds beautiful. I wish I had seen it. It’s a shame you missed it. It sounds like it was amazing. He thought back to the summer holidays, and how the biggest change in his life was when his father had decided to up sticks and move them to England. He didn’t mind, because he had chosen, in Gem’s view, the perfect place to move. A small little cottage outside of the Muggle village, Abbotsbury, on a cliff overlooking the Jurassic Coast. On summer days, the view was just amazing, and Gem had spent many a day sitting near the edge of the cliff, and looking out at the English Channel. It sure beat the old view he had back in Ireland. Sure it was nice. A view of the field out back, which he could see the creatures of the forest move, but the view of the ocean were just perfect. The waves almost seemed to stay perfect and unmoved. Even during horrible rainy days it seemed nice. A mist would settle over the road, and the ocean, and it would give it a mysterious view that he thought was just as nice.
Well let’s see, the summer was mostly taken up by daddy dear deciding to move us to England. But I don’t care. You should the view from my room. We moved into a small cottage on top of a cliff on the Jurassic Coast, overlooking the English Channel. It’s just… divine. Oh, and I was also chosen as the Irish Youth Representative for the Council of Magic. They were originally gonna make me the British Youth Representative, then they realized I had more Irish Blood then British Blood, so they changed their mind. And back here at Hogwarts, I’ve mostly been busy with my Magical Law classes. And my others. What about you? What have you been up to? Although they had kept in contact throughout most of the summer, Gem had neglected to mention these two things, because he wanted to see her reaction in person. He followed her gaze, and saw her looking at the giant squid. He Often wished he could see what it looked like. But alas, for the time being, he had to make do with pictures. She soon changed her gaze and looked at the castle. He knew what she was thinking. And he agreed. How could people stay inside on a day like today.

Cali smiled as he put emphasis on the word friend. It made her realize that this was one of the times that he understood what she had been rambling on about even though it wasn’t something a normal person would usually say out loud. She had a tendency to do that but she often tried not to, except when she was with Gem, if she was with him it was not an issue as he understood her.
She smiled and said, “Good choice on having me not answer that.” It was not that her and Gem argued often or even sometimes, it was a rare occasion, she just really wasn’t in the mood to argue with him or anyone else. Cali was feeling peaceful today and didn’t want to have anything trouble her, even if it was something as small as a miscommunication, her and Gem rarely ever had those anyway. They were usually on the same level as far as understanding each other went.
“You could drag me away from Madame Pomfrey sometimes.” She said flirting a little, “It would be good for me to get away for a little bit, it’s not as if my healer test is tomorrow.” She smiled as she looked over at him. Lately she had been spending so much time trying to become a healer she had almost forgot what it was like in the real world and that not everything involved potions and healing people.
Cali smiled sighing a little, “I wish you could have seen it too, it was defiantly something to look at.” She closed her eyes picturing it and let out a small sigh. She had wished she was able to go out in it and relax and breath for a bit, but it was not something that she could do because she had to go to the Hospital Wing and help out. ‘There will be more to see though.’ She thought to herself. This was completely true Hogwarts always had beautiful sunsets and even prettier sunrises although not many people saw them as most people were still asleep.
Cali listened as he told her about moving, “Oh I wish I could see it!” She said excitedly, she knew if Gem loved it she would too. “I absolutely love houses that are over cliffs they are absolutely gorgeous!” She exclaimed moving both her hands to her cheeks excitedly trying to picture it. She had always wanted to live in a house like that, not that her own house was dingy or anything. Her house was actually very gorgeous she had grown up in a mansion that was huge. Her and her twin brother Bryan had rooms next to each other both at the end of a long glamorous hallway. There were a number of rooms and they hadn’t had to be that close to each other but it was rather more out of convenience than anything else. During the summer or when they both went home on holiday they spent the majority of their time with each other. Their parents room was also across the house from them making it easier for them to cause mischief or to be loud if they wanted.
When Gem told Cali about him being chosen as the Irish Youth Representative her jaw dropped. She smiled and her eyes lit up as she said, “Oh my gosh! Congratulations! Why didn’t you tell me?” She exclaimed. “I am so happy for you! You must tell me all about it! You have been wanting that for so long! Your father must have been so pleased!” She then looked at him a bit affronted, “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” She lightly punched him on his shoulder. She couldn’t believe he would keep something this important from her. It was his dream and he had accomplished it, she didn’t understand why he didn’t tell her they had talked all summer. She smiled again and said, “I’m so happy for you!”
“Well I haven’t done anything near as exciting as you, but the summer was alright hung out with Bryan a lot. Other than that we went on a few trips with the parents and then came back.” She nodded, “It wasn’t anything to be too excited about, unlike you.” She smiled flirting a little with him at the last point.

Gem smiled back at her. Good choice in not answering it He was glad she had chosen not to. It wasn’t that they never argued. He could indeed name a few occasions when they had argued. The two of them were one of those ‘couples’ that rarely argued, but when they did, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea to be in the same room with the two of them, or even within a few feet of them. Hell, the last time they had argued, Gem had come close to pulling out his wand and using the first spell that came to mind, and given the proximity to the full moon, and his tendency to lose his anger easier, it would not have been a nice spell to be using on someone he considered to be his closest ‘friend’. But luckily, people didn’t have to worry about that. They were usually good to each other. Gem gave her a small smile. He could tell when she was flirting, and he knew that right now, that’s exactly what she was doing with him. Even when they weren’t dating, she had a tendency to do that. But he wasn’t completely innocent. He tended to it with her as well. Now that he really thought about it, he believed that he had finally managed to find the perfect the perfect name for their special relationship. A little something an old Irish friend of his had called a ‘Flitationship’ A relationship between two people that weren’t quite friends, but also weren’t dating. Instead they tended to spend most of their time flirting with each other. Which, apart from the times when they were dating, was pretty much all they did with all other. Well I’m very sorry for not dragging you away. I just assumed that you wanted to be a healer so badly, you wouldn’t have appreciated me doing that. But, I guess next time you’re there, I could always come and find you, and claim I need you for something or other
I’m sure it was. It certainly sounds like it was a sight to see Gem let out a small sigh. Within the six years that he had been here, he had seen his fair share of beautiful sunsets, and even more beautiful sunrises. He had only seen more of those because he was usually up before the sun. He knew that not many people had seen a sunrise at Hogwarts. He knew that Cali had, because they had seen a couple of them together the last time they were dating.
He let out another small smile when she exclaimed that she wished she could see it. He knew that she would love to. The house certainly is beautiful. And I knew that you would want to see it sometime, which is why my dad has agreed to let you stay over sometime during the winter holidays, if you wanted to, and if your parents allow it. It hadn’t been very hard to get his dad to let her stay round. She had stayed round there house in Ireland once before, and he had loved her. She was perhaps the one girl his dad did like. He was sure she would love just as much as him. It was a small place, with two floors, and enough rooms for his family, as well a room where she could stay. And if they were they were lucky, and the weather was kind to them, they could spend a day out on the cliffs, looking at the ocean, which always seemed to have a calming effect on people.
Gem almost burst out laughing when Cali’s jaw dropped at his news. That was the exact reason he had waited until now to tell her. He had wanted to see her face in person. He knew that she would the person who would be the most excited for him. She had known how long he had wanted this. He held up a hand, signaling her to stop for a bit. Okay, first things first. I waited until now to tell you for two reasons. One, you’re my best ‘friend’ and I wanted to tell you in person. That, and your facial expression is priceless right now. Next, thank you. Third: Law prohibits me from discussing the cases outside of the courtroom, but needless to say, for me it’s one of the best things to have ever happened to me. I’ve been waiting for something like this for ages. At the mention of his father, his face dropped slightly. Meh. He’s happy for me, obviously, but you know my father. He wants to be like him. He wants me to become an Auror, or a Hit Wizard. He’s just happy that I’m doing something in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. I, umm, I still haven’t told him yet that I want to work for the International Magical Office of Law. He knew what his father was like. For as long as he could remember, his dad had wanted him to become an Auror or Hit wizard, but for as long as he could remember, he had wanted to work on improving the law, mainly trying to get equal rights for all creatures of the wizarding world.
He listened as she told him about her summer. He had yet to meet Bryan. He didn’t think it was possible for two people to be as close as him and Cali, and not meet any family members. He had only ever briefly met her father, and that was only because he had been dropping her off at his house. Other than that, he hadn’t had any contact with them. Well, where did you go on the trips to? He smiled again. Once again she was flirting with him. He didn’t think It was possible for two people to flirt this much, and then not do anything about it. But somehow, they managed it.

Cali smiled a little looking at Gem as he apologized for not dragging her away, “Well next time you should. I could use a day off and away from there hanging out with someone who is not currently hurt.” She smiled a little. It was true most of her days were spent with people who were angry or upset because they had just gotten hurt or had hurt themselves. It was enough to drain anyone after a while.
Cali smiled as Gem mentioned her being able to come stay with them over holiday. She loved his father, he was so nice and he seemed to really like her when they had met. “Of course I would love to and my dad won’t mind.” She said smiling a little. “That is as long as you do not have some girlfriend that won’t allow it.” She said smiling and pushing Gem a little playfully. She was really hoping he didn’t because when Gem did have a new girlfriend things were a little strained for them, at least on her side. She never did want to mess things up, but with her being a girl and half veela and also an ex, the girls Gem dated were less than fond of her.
Cali smiled as Gem told her he had waited because he wanted to see her face. She put her hands on her hips mocking being mad and said, “Don’t you dare make fun of my facial expressions when you do something this exciting.” She smiled at him and then said, “I know you can’t discuss the cases I’m just so excited for you.” She grinned again and said, “I know you have been wanting it for ages we talked about it last year I just cannot believe you actually got it. I mean I know you deserve it and I’m very happy for you!” She said still smiling at him.
Cali saw his face drop and sighed a little, she did not understand why his dad could not be overly happy for him and just accept what Gem wanted to do for a future. That was one thing Cali did not agree with Gem’s dad about. She thought Gem’s career choice was absolutely amazing and that if that was what he wanted to do then he should do it. Cali looked a little concerned when he said he hadn’t told his father that he wanted to work for the International Magical Office of Law. “What do you think he will say when you do tell him?”She asked looking at him. She just wanted Gem to be happy and she knew he got upset and stressed that his father did not like his career choices.
Cali’s mouth dropped a little as she realized Gem had not even met Bryan yet, “You still haven’t met my brother yet have you?” She asked looking at him. ‘Wow he really hasn’t met Bryan yet.’Cali thought. She felt a little bad about the fact that they had not met and she had met his whole family. It was rather surprising as Cali was really close with her brother and she was close to Gem too. “Sometime this year you are going to have to meet him. You see he sometimes wanders around like I do, so it is hard to find him from time to time.” She said looking at him. It was hard for her to believe that he hadn’t met Bryan yet but it made sense too, Gem was not in the same house as Cali and Cali was not always attached to Bryan.
“Well this year we went to London, which was a lot of fun. We also went to Paris which was the highlight of my summer!” She said smiling. “I went crazy with the shopping.” She had too; she had bought more things in one day than she had the whole year previously. “I got to spend a lot of time with mom! You know with her being a healer she is not around too much. But, she got quite a bit of time off to come and spend with us.” She said excitedly. Cali loved spending time with her mother, although with her mother’s career choice it hardly ever happened. That was one thing that worried Cali about herself becoming a healer; she didn’t want to not be able to spend time with her family as her mom had. Cali had always wanted a family and she did not want her career choice to make it impossible for her to have one. She loved kids, even if they were messy, and she was worried that becoming a healer would make it so she could not spend the amount of time she wanted with them.

Gem smiled back at her. He closed his eyes, made a cross shape above his heart and said,Fine. The next time you are working, I swear by the Lord, be it God, Allah or Zeus, that I shall make up some kind of excuse so that you can get away from the dreaded prison that is the Hospital Wing, and the fearsome warden that is Madame Pomfrey. His opened his eyes, looked directly into hers, and asked Is that good enough for you? He always talked like that when he was mocking her, and she knew that. But she also knew that he wasn’t joking, and he would come and get her out of her Hospital Wing duties.
He smiled back at her, Good. Then that’s settled. During the holidays sometime, you’ll have to come over, and we can look at the ocean together, and maybe have a picnic there as well. After she mentioned about him having a girlfriend that wouldn’t allow it, he clicked his fingers, tutted and said, Now you mention it, I’m pretty sure Vicky wouldn’t appreciate you being there He waited about a minute before then saying, I’m kidding of course. We broke up a week before term started. I’m a free man. He paused for a couple of seconds, before turning to Cali, and asking, You don’t have any single friends, do you? She knew he was only joking, but it was still fun to joke around with her.
Gem almost burst out laughing when Cali put her hands on her hips. It was hard for her to look angry, when she was looking as good as she was. After she had finished speaking, he pouted and said, Ahh, but it’s so much fun. And hard to resist as well. That’s good. It wouldn’t be good for me to end up in front of the Wizengamot for it. I know we talked about it last year. I can’t believe I got it either. I mean, do you know how many people applied for the position, cause I can tell you now, it was a lot.
He heard her sign when his face drop. Damn this girl was good at reading his emotions. But then again, his father not knowing about his future was something they had discussed at great length last year. It was something that Gem had been trying to build up the courage to do for a long time now, but every time he went to do it, he chickened out. Things were already strained between the two of them, and this would just serve to distance them even more. Well let’s see. About a week before term started, Troy told him he wanted to join the Department of Magical Sports and Games, and he pretty much hit the roof. So I’m thinking if I do tell him, it’ll probably be a replay of that, but worse. I’m the oldest, and he’s always been pretty hard on me. He signed slightly. I know I’ve got to tell him, and soon too. I mean, I graduate next year, and the first thing I plan on doing is applying to the International Magical Office of Law He just signed again. He was so frustrated. His father had always been tough on him, and this was the first time he had really found something he was good at, and it was the one thing his father would forbid him from doing. Why he couldn’t just accept his career choice, he didn’t know. But it was something he was going to do, even if it meant cutting ties with his father.
I don’t believe I have. You’ve shown me pictures of him before, and I’ve seen him around Hogwarts before, but I’ve never actually spoken to him before. Which he found really strange, as him and Cali were really close, and he knew how close the two of them were as well. What made it weirder was the fact that he had met all of his immediate family. He nodded in agreement. She was right. One way or another, he had to meet her brother. It was just to strange, her know practically all his family, and him not knowing any off hers.
He listened to her explain about where she had gone, and couldn’t help but feel a little jealous when he heard that she had gone to Paris. He had always wanted to go there. Sure, he was 1/8th French, but oddly enough, he had only ever been to France once, and that was when he was very young. His Maternal Great-Grandparents had then moved to Britain. Now when they went abroad it was either to Canada to visit his Maternal Great-Grandparents or Greece to visit his Paternal Great-Grandparents. His Paternal Grandparents came to Britain to see them. And how was Paris. Did you meet any hot guys? I hear France is full of them. He smiled at her. He knew that her mother’s job was very demanding, so he was happy to hear that she had managed to get some time with her.

Cali laughed a little as she heard him going on and on about how he would come rescue her. “You can just act as though you are a prince and rescue your princess.” She said smiling as she raised a hand to her chest indicating that she was the princess. “Yes, that is good enough for me. I like spending time with you and you know how I get when I’m too wrapped up in working.” She said looking over at him. She was very doubtful that he had forgotten how stressed out it made her if she didn’t ever take any time to herself or have someone come save her. She would become a very stressed person who was liable to snap easily. This was nothing like her normal self, but she could not help it stress to that level would affect anyone.
Cali smiled as he mentioned having a picnic and looking at the ocean with him. ‘Oh he knows how to win me over.’ She thought to herself imagining it. She one loved spending time with Gem and two loved being outside and what was better than looking at the ocean off a cliff. She could not wait until the holidays now and it was defiantly giving her something to look forward to.
Cali smiled as he mentioned Vicky and said, “Oh? Why did you two break up? Did you tell her your deep dark secret and she ran away?” She said jokingly of course. She was not able to help herself in that type of situation. They always joked with each other like that. “Now that you mention it I do have a single friend or two. But, I don’t know if they would fancy you or not.” She said smiling mischievously , “Plus they are far too like me for you to ever fancy them.” She said jokingly as she smiled back at him in a flirting sort of manor.
”Any way you look at it I’m excited for you, even if you cannot tell me what you do on a day to day basis.” Cali said smiling. “I know a lot of people applied and I am so happy you got it, obviously you deserved it and I think you should be commended for it.” She said as she gave him a pat on the back, “Good job dear boy.” She smiled a little as she started laughing. She could not help but mess with him today. He looked so cute and something about him was asking for her to pick on him a little.
”I cannot believe that he told your dad that! Did he at least try to ease your dad into it or did he just drop it on him like a bomb?” Cali asked looking a little concerned. ”Although you are going to have to tell him soon, it may be hard but your right we do graduate in a year. What would you do if you didn’t tell him then he finds out your applying for the International Magical Office of Law?”Cali asked. She was worried about Gem telling his father but she knew once he did and after his father exploded that Gem would feel better about the situation and would not have to keep hiding it from him. She knew it bothered him to hide things like this from his father. She was hoping that it did not mess things up with his father so bad that they never talked again, although she feared it may.
Cali frowned a little at Gem’s announcement about never meeting her brother. It seemed strange that they hadn’t met, but what was she to do when all three of them were never in the same place at the same time. “Well that is not very good. We will have to introduce you!” She smiled and said, “You really haven’t met any of my family now that I think about it. One of these holidays you will have to come and visit me so that you can meet everyone.”She said thinking about it and smiling, “No need to worry about it they will just grill you a little. I mean, I do happen to be the baby of the family, if only by a few minutes.” She smiled looking at Gem.
“Yes, I met quite a few hot guys. That is where I met Chaz.” She let out a breath and smiled. Chaz had been her summer fling. They had met in Paris and he had shown her around. She had so much fun with him and didn’t want to come home, but in the end she packed up her stuff and went ahead and came home to get ready to come back to Hogwarts. Summers were generally fun for Cali, being half Veela it was often that guys paid her attention and that she got to see new and different things because they wanted to take her places and show her around. “Don’t worry though. We broke up once I left Paris. I couldn’t be dragging him along with me.” She smiled a little and said, ”It was just a summer fling although he was very attractive.”

Post by Geminus James Rattagin on Jul 14, 2012 20:05:22 GMT -5
Gem laughed along with her as she said about him being her prince, and he gave a mock bow and said Well then, Prince Rattagin at your service, your majesty As he came out the bow, she was talking again. When she’d finished, he put his finger on his chin, and made it look like he was thinking hard and said, Well let’s see, Stressed out, Annoying, Liable to snap at any point. Tell me again what the difference in personality is… He said with a smile on his face. She knew he was only joking. This was just another thing between them. They just sometimes poked things at each other. Never anything to serious though.
As soon as Gem saw the smile on her face, he knew that he had her. He knew just how to win her over. But then again, she knew just what he liked. If you offered him the chance to play his guitar anywhere for any amount of time, then you had him. It was something else his father didn’t like. He had said that Gem could take Guitar lessons, as long as he paid for them himself. Which he did. He had gotten himself a job, and started to pay his own way. After he had started at Hogwarts, he had also started to play the piano. This was something else he hadn’t told his dad. And he wasn’t planning on telling him any time soon.
Gem gasped as she mentioned him having a deep dark secret. Why Miss Calista. I’m sure I don’t know what you are on about. I don’t have any deep, dark secrets. Besides, she didn’t run away… it was more of a light jog. But you know, she always liked to jog after dinner. The fact that it was twelve in the afternoon, and after lunch has absolutely, positively Nothing to do with it. He was of course joking, as they seemed to do with each other on an almost daily basis. When she mentioned about maybe having some single friends, but not knowing if they’d fancy him or not, he gasped and said, Why wouldn’t they like me. Do they not like, Handsome, Good looking, Charming and Funny guys, with great hair? He said as he flicked his hair from one side of his head to the other. She of course knew that he was joking. It was just something he did. He gasped again as she said about them being to like her for him to fancy. And just what is that supposed to mean. It’s not like I haven’t fancied you before. He said flirting back just a little bit.
Thanks. I’m real excited to. To be honest most of the cases are just minor things. You know, thefts and small time things like that. We’ve had one or two big cases, but most of the big time cases are dealt with by the Wizengamot. Telling her what the cases were about was all he could tell her. Like Muggle law, he was prohibited from saying any of the details. He waved his hand at her in a ‘ahh stop it’ motion, saying Thanks. I was told by the Judge of the last case that I deserve a commendation for having to sit through multiple cases in hours and for having to read all those big, boring law books. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him that I enjoyed doing it. He told me that it was his job, and even he didn’t enjoy it at times. After he was finished he thought, I wish my dad could be supportive like you. When she started laughing, he gave her a quizzical look, and asked, And what, may I ask, is so funny?
A little bit of both. After I came back from my first court case, he asked my brother what he was planning on doing with his life, and he told dad that he wanted to work for the Department of Magical Sports and Games, and he kinda lost it. At that point I thought it would probably be safer to wait for a while before telling him what I wanted to do when I finish Hogwarts. The fact that she sounded concerned comforted him. It was nice to know that there was someone who cared about his future. His dad on the other hand seemed to have his entire future planed out for him.
He signed slightly I know I’ve got to tell him. But you know what he’s like. If I don’t plan my future like he wants me me to, thing’s will become very strained between the two of us Like things aren’t already strained enough he thought to himself. To be honest. I’m not sure. If I don’t tell him, then he finds out that I’m applying to the International Office of Law, he’ll hit the roof. If I do tell him, he’ll hit the roof. It’s a lose-lose situation whichever way I look it.
He listened as she said about him coming to meet her family, and laughed slightly when she said about him being grilled slightly. Well that sounds like it will be a fun time. But, I’m usually very good when it comes to meeting friends parents. I’m very good at charming my way through. It was true. When it came to meeting parents, he always managed to charm them into liking him. It didn’t always work though.
He listened as she mentioned Chaz, and how it was just a summer fling. He wasn’t quite sure why, but the thought if her still being single somehow managed to make him feel happy. He couldn’t quite explain, but whenever the two of them had an other half, things became very strained between the two of them. And it wasn’t very fun for either of them. Why would I worry. I’m happy that you managed to find some fun. Even if it was for a brief time

Cali smiled and said, “You know that’s the opposite of me meanie.” She gave him a small push on his sholder and laughed, “I hate when I get in those moods and then I disappear to my clear my head spot.” She had never told Gem where it was, but it was in the middle of the forbidden forest and she knew he would not approve of her going in there by herself. She often went in there when she needed to clear her head or just needed time away from the castle. It was a huge lake in the middle of the forest and there was never anyone there, she would just lay around and clear her head listening to the wilderness and thinking about stuff. Sometimes she would take a swim, but that was a rare occasion.
Cali laughed as Gem gasped and went on about her running away from him, “She is one of the lucky ones to have been able to jog fast enough to get away from you.” She smiled giggling a little. She had to mess with him a little, it was protocol when it came to their relationship. When he started asking why her friends wouldn’t like him she laughed a little covering her mouth lightly with her hand. “Nope, you see they like the total opposite, anyone who is mean, cruel and defiantly not as handsome as you.” She smiled giving him a little look like she wanted him, she rarely did this, but it fit with the occasion right now so she did anyway. She hoped he wouldn’t take it the wrong way. “Well of course you have fancied me everyone does.” It was Cali’s turn to act like she was absolutely amazing now. “I mean who wouldn’t like a half veela, funny, smart, and nice girl?!”She gave Gem a big smile and giggled a little unable to help herself. It wasn’t often that she talked about herself like that actually it was almost never, but when she was with Gem she knew he wouldn’t take it as her boasting it was just the two of them being playful as always.
Cali smiled and said, “You have to start somewhere, even minor cases is an awesome thing to be handling at our age. I’m sure you are going to be great at what you do, no matter what you choose.” She smiled and said, “I wish I could have seen his face, shoot I wish I could have seen my own face the first time you told me.” She laughed a little thinking about it, “I thought you were crazy for liking to read those big books, especially since I find them quite boring.” She smiled and said, “The funny thing, I don’t say dear boy, that’s too professional for me. I thought you knew me better than that Gem!” She grinned a little looking down.
“So any idea when your going to tell him? I mean by next summer that’s almost too late.” She said still concerned. She wished his father would be more accepting like her parents were of her career path. When Cali was little she told them she had wanted to be a ballerina and they had accepted it, they knew she would grow out of it, but they put her into muggle classes and had bought her everything she would need to make that dream come true. Cali was quite good at ballet, but that was something most people never knew about her. She wished Gem’s dad could just accept what he wanted to do instead of trying to live through him.
“I still think you should tell him before you apply because if you don’t tell him and he finds out on his own I feel like he is going to be even more unhappy about the situation.” Cali told him honestly. She was sincerely worried about this situation with his father, although there was literally nothing she could do to help or fix the situation. She just had to wait and see how Gem handled it and be there for him once it was done. She hoped he would tell him dad because in her mind if he didn’t tell him before he applied and his dad found out through someone else that would defiantly end ties with him for good and she did not want to have to see Gem go through that.
Cali frowned a little thinking, “What are we going to do when we leave Hogwarts? I won’t be able to literally be ran into by you!” She exclaimed looking at him, “I know this is a horrible thing to admit, but I will miss you a lot!” She pouted a little thinking about it sticking out her bottom lip.
“Well dad did like you for the brief amount of time that he met you.” Cali told him as she smiled thinking about it. “He said you were one of the best guys I have dated this far. He was actually quite upset when I told him about this last breakup.” She smiled and said, “It helped that I told him about what you wanted to do for a career and I talked you up, your welcome.” She said smiling playfully. “But, yes I think it would be a good idea for you to meet them and get to know them. You are one of my best ‘friends’.” Cali said putting a bit of emphasis on the word friend.
Cali smiled a little and playfully said, “You would worry because your so madly in love with me.” She giggled a little and said, “You know I’m kidding.” She was in a way, she knew Gem had some sort of love for her because they were best friends although she was not for sure if it was more than that even though she wanted it to be. She loved him to a point, at this time she was not in love with him, but she would always love him.
