Draco had taken to sneaking out of his room, going to the astronomy tower to read the letters his family sent to him. Even when he didn't have letters, it was a place to think. It was quickly becoming almost daily, and he always had an apple in hand when he did it, hoping he might actually eat something more than what he picked off his plate.
The sky was clear and stars were bright against the navy curtain of the night sky. He had two letters today, and he was trying to put them off, finish the apple first so he didn't get sick and have to throw it away.
He was always looking back to the stairs to see if anyone was there. It was paranoia playing up. He wished there was someone to talk to, but even the closest of friends he couldn't trust. Draco was terrified that choosing the wrong person could ruin him completely. It was a narrow road he was walking, and always riddled with uncertainty.

Aurora had been in the astronomy tower for hours now. She was sitting on the edge of the windowsill looking out across the grounds. She was in deep thought about her family situation. Her mother had sent her an owl a few days previously saying her father had to go to trial and she had not heard anything since then, even though her mother said she would send her an owl the next day. She could not understand why her mother would not, unless she was in trouble too. Aurora had been going by the mental thinking of, ‘No news is good news.’ It was something her mother had taught her from a young age. If she were to get no news, it was to be considered good news.
Secretly Aurora wished she had someone to talk to about everything but she had always been brought up to trust no one. ‘Do not trust anyone as far as you could throw them.’ This was something her mother had also said to her a lot growing up. Instead of learning life lessons as a pureblood you learned how to keep secrets and stay sane.
Aurora sighed a little as she leaned back although she had thought she heard someone, but she always thought she heard someone lately. She had been paranoid a lot.

Draco sighed as he finaly got to the top of the tower, letters still tucked unread in his breast pocket with his small notebook. By the time he got up there he figured he was good, but spotting blond hair snapped him to attention.
He calmed a bit when he recognized his housemate, Aurora. "Decided to live in seclusion from the rest of us, Davies?" Draco asked, raising a brow. He questioned the other's motives for being up here because as far as he knew this was his place to run off to. And it was late to boot. Maybe she was stalking him, just like Potter was.
Either way he made his way to lean his back against the wall, biting into his apple. "At least here would be as good a place as any to live. Good view, and I assume house elves can still get up here as well." he shrugged. He knew he couldn't take the letters out with another person around. How long had the other been up there? And more important, how long would she stay?

Aurora jumped at hearing the other voice. She hadn’t really thought anyone was there she had just been on edge lately. She spotted Malfoy and relaxed a little, at least it wasn’t some Gryffindor that would run and tell McGonagall, that old bag she could not stand her most of the time. Always taking points away from Slytherin because she was ‘Deputy Headmistress’.
“Maybe I have.” Aurora answered as she looked toward Draco, “Would me moving bother you that much? I mean if it would I guess I can stay in the girls dorms.” She said smirking a bit. She was messing with him as he had been her, it was something she commonly did with the boy as she knew him alright she did not feel the need to be on edge.
“The house elves would bloody well find a way to get up here if they couldn’t.” Aurora said in a rather they had just better type of voice. She knew they would be able to and she had no real intentions of living up here. She smirked a little and said, “Bit late to be seeing you sneaking around the castle. Are you the one who keeps getting our house points taken away?” She smirked a bit looking at him, she knew it wasn’t him but they had to talk about something. They were both breaking the rules, she just had to blame it on him because he was the only one present.

"Even if I am sneaking around I sure as hell have the brain about me not to get caught." Draco scoffed, his nose up in his familiar pompous posture. It was tiring to hold such a pose when he was much too tired to believe it himself.
"And I don't have a care where you sleep so long as it's not in some Gryffindor or Hufflepuff's bed. It would be distasteful to find one of our house's finest women with someone not worthy. Like that poor girl laste year. Lucky she was in her last year of I expect she would be exiled." he rolled his eyes recalling the incident. Pureblood eligible bachlorette found in bed with a Hufflepuff muggleborn two years her junior.
He walked towards the center of the room. "I assume your reason for being here must be similar to mine, so I won't pry." Draco said, waving his hand dismissively as he took another bit from his apple. "So who do you think the one losing points is? A first year, or Potter?" he smirked, chuckling a bit. "Bloody git has been following me I swear." he rolled his eyes again.

Aurora smirked and said, “As the same with me. Only brainless git’s get caught out of their common room at night.” She answered looking him over. ‘He looks tired.’ She thought to herself. He really did look tired and come to think of it she hadn’t really seen him around much, but then again she hadn’t been around much.
“Oh she was exiled, I made sure of it.” Aurora said putting her nose up a little, “I told father and of course father told everyone who would listen. Poor girl got kicked out of her house.” She smirked a little at the thought of it. She had taken care of her, although she was hoping no one found out about her conversation with Seamus. “Anyway, you would never catch me dead with a Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. I would never sink that low, there is no point.” She said in a stuck up kind of voice.
She nodded and said, “I’m assuming that yes we are up here for the same reason.” She left it at that just as he had. They often tried not to pry in each other’s business although she was sure most people had heard about her father’s hearing. “I’m guessing on Potter, he really doesn’t belong in this house anyway.” She said again in a pompous attitude. “I don’t know how he managed to get into Slytherin. If he was following me I would hex him.” Aurora said offhandedly. She actually might hex him had he been following her, but she was really doubtful that would ever happen. Her and Potter were cordial, but that was about as far as their relationship went. He was just so different from everyone else in their house and Aurora did not want to be associated with that.

"If I ever have news I want to spread this is why I come to you." Draco chuckled. Many Slytherins were adept at spreading messages, but Aurora seemed to know how to spin it right. And who didn't want to listen to a gorgeous girl?
"I bloody should have. He said he was 'concerned' and I could 'talk' to him." he scoffed. "He's a sheep among wolves. And I'm perfectly aware that's not the proper analogy." he said. "I'm still convinced he just wants my spot on the house quidditch team." he scowled.
He had made good progress on the apple so far, half done. Considering he had a couple glasses of pumkin juice and bread for all three meals, scaps of chicken added for supper, and an apple or two through the day if was definitely a wonder he hadn't lost his stomach to nerves yet. It didn't sound like much but it was better than the days before. Much longer and people would notice, he was sure. Considering this little 'habit' had been going on for months through summer.
"How have classes been treating you thus far? Easy enough getting back into it?" Draco asked casually, moving over to one of the large open windows now. It was a mild night, not too cold, not uncomfortably warm. He was secretly wishing that winter would come, skipping christmas holidays so he wouldn't have to return home. Not while Auntie Bella was there at least, and it seemed she would be there a while.
Summer had been hell enough working with the bat, he didn't need a 'refresher course'.

Aurora smirked slyly, “The only reason that girl got it so bad was because she asked for it.” She nodded matter of factly, “She told me I couldn’t do it and that if I tried she would get me. Look at who is where.” She smirked again. “I don’t make a habit of spreading things, she asked for it this time.” She let out a small smile. She was rather skilled at spreading messages around if need be although she really never did make it a habit and when it was her friends she never would tell a soul.
“I would not trust him.” Aurora commented, “What he wants the seeker position?” She scoffed. “He must think he is entitled to everything now. Next thing you know he will be trying to play Chaser all by himself.” She said in a stuck up sort of manner. She did not necessarily hate Potter as much as it seemed she just was not a big fan of him or the way he acted sometimes. He could be rather arrogant, just like she had heard his father was.
“You know classes are never a problem for me. I pick up on that junk easily.” This was very true, the stuff she had problems picking up on were things that were a lot harder, things her father tried to teach her when he had extra time and those things that her mother thought she should know in case anything were to ever happen. They were hard on her and making sure she knew her dark arts well, as it was Hogwarts would not teach that although it was Aurora’s favorite. This is why she was so good at defense against the dark arts, because she knew the other side and knew it well.

"I'm trying to make small talk, so hex me." Draco joked, chuckling as he held his hand up in mock surrender. He knew the reason he and Potter didn't get on was because they were both so stubborn. 'And cause Potter is just a git.' his mind would always chime in. Of course he opted not to repeat the word 'attractive' in that sentence that was usually added.
"Has your fate been sealed yet?" he asked. "Of course I mean, engagement wise." he added. A lot of pureblood families he knew, including his own, still arranged marriages, and this was usually the year they were starting to be set. Opinions on the matter seemed to vary depending on who you asked, but Draco for one wouldn't protest. He knew by now he wouldn't chose one on his own, might as let his father amuse himself with the task of finding a woman to make the family look good.
Unfortunately, most of the valid choices in his father's mind were girls he already knew and in some cases, was close to with no intention at all of marrying. One came to mind, Pansy. He wouldn't want to end up with her. She was an okay person, but not to be stuck with.

Aurora let out a full smile and said, “If I wanted to hex you it would have been done.” She sighed a little, “I just haven’t talked to many people lately so small talk is not in my vocabulary anymore.” She said jokingly although it was half truthful she really hadn’t talked to many people except that Finnigan, she had talked to him in the kitchen the other night. He was quite charming, but she couldn’t let herself think about him.
“Not yet, I think Father is waiting for the right person to come to him.” It was generally the boys fathers who came to the girls to discuss such matters. Her father had been talking about a couple different people including the Malfoy’s but was waiting for the right time. She was hoping she didn’t end up with someone like Crabbe or Goyle, she may just hex herself if she did. “Has yours?”[/b] She asked him trying to keep the conversation going at least a little.
Aurora had known from a young age she would probably end up in an arranged marriage and had secretly hoped that she would be able to just work it out so that they did not hate each other in the end. Her own parents were not very fond of each other and both actually slept in different rooms of the house, it was a surprise to her that they could stand each other long enough to reproduce. She hoped that would not be her future, but if it was then so be it and she would live with it, just like everyone else did to uphold her family name. That is what heirs and heiress did anyway, was hold up the family name.

"I haven't been told, but I assume father is being picky, like most parents are. He won't speak a word to me until he's almost decided. That's how he is." Draco shrugged. He licked his dry cracked lips, sore from where he had nervously pulled skin until it bled. It seemed like he was eating more of his lips than his food.
"I really couldn't care who he decides for the most part. It's easier than having to go through it myself. I mean, dating is tedious. And getting attached can only end up painful. I've seen it. What I want in my wife is an agreement that it's mutually beneficial for us and out families that we marry, and that I can stand her at least enough to have a child with her." he bit into his apple again. Really the only person he fancied (though he woudn't use that word because it was more that he just wanted to snog, not date. And only because of hormones) was the git Potter himself.
"You know I actually like being up on this tower. It's... peaceful. That's why I come here, to deal with my problems away from everything else." he said, chuckling gently. It wasn't like he could even fully deal with them here on his own either. Maybe he would end up desperate enough to actually confide in Potter. He scowled at the idea. Why did it even enter his mind?

Aurora nodded understandingly and said, “Yes I’m sure my father is doing the same thing. There really is no point in discussing it with me, it’s the one thing I don’t have a choice about. I just hope he picks someone I can stand living around for any amount of time and that yes I can stand them long enough to have one child with them.” She said sighing a little. She did not mind that it was going to be an arranged marriage she just really did not want someone she hated but if it was she had no choice. “You are right though it is easier than dating.” She nodded thinking about it.
Aurora smiled a little and said, “Yes I enjoy being up here too. Easy place to deal with things going on in your head.” She nodded and looked out the window. “It is generally peaceful, plus you can see everything from the stars to the forest so it has a good view.” She said off handedly. She looked over toward Malfoy and said, “Have you been ok? I haven’t seen you in a while.” She had a hint of concern in her voice but mostly just wanted to keep talking. She was not trying to pry in his life she had enough going on in her own. She just hadn’t known what to say and that was the first thing that came to mind.
